The woman clearly broke their laws and quite rightly she will receive 100 lashes. After all, given her condition, she can hardly deny that she committed “adultery” – acording to Saudi law. She’s lucky that they didn’t sentence her to be publicly stoned to death.

Ok devils advocate only was she actually raped or did she just claim that to escape Saudi law hopefully ?

This is the point isn’t it. We don’t have all the ‘facts’ from the Daily Fascist – only their highly emotive (and I suspect biased) account of the general circumstances.

But my point is that this ‘story’ wouldn’t be so inflammatory were the woman simply convicted of adultery etc etc. What makes it work as a “Media Shock Horror” type story is the addition of her claim to have been raped.

It is precisely this element (the Media possibly mis-reporting) that makes me wonder if all the facts, as presented to us, are in fact true.

In my eyes the fact that she was given such a “lenient” sentence suggests that they know fine well she was not guilty and are in fact keeping “their” women in their place.

    ffs it stinks

As it happens Reason, I completely agree with you. By our standards it does indeed “stink”.

However, and there is always a ‘however’ isn’t there – we have to accept that Saudi laws and standards are NOT the same as our laws and standards. This isn’t to say that they are wrong (or for that nmatter that they are right) simply that those are THEIR laws and not ours.

This woman was a Saudi national living in Saudi Arabia and subject to all the laws of HER country. In their terms she may well have been leniently treated – who knows.

We are really really fortunate that the laws in THIS country would NEVER allow a vistim of an alleged rape to be charged with adultery; convicted; imprisoned; and publicly lashed.

Acceptable to whom Will??? The laws of Saidi Arabia seem, on the face of it, to be acceptable to the Saudis.

She was lucky (don’t faint please), if she did the same thing in the ‘Sharia’ parts of Nigeria for example – she’d have been publicly stoned to death.

I thought you had to be married to commit adultery.

    adultery –
Noun – sexual unfaithfulness of a husband or wife [Latin adulterium]

She isn’t married so it isn’t adultery, just unlawful (for her, not the guys involved) sex. Yes she broke the laws of saudi Arabia, but 100 lashes for getting raped/your jollies seems somewhat harsh. But that’s Saudi for you where men are men and women are property.

The joy of Sharia, coming soon to Britain, don’t you just love it ladies?

How do we know that Sharia law isnt
practised in certain quarters this country already?
