I have a couple of forums on my favourites which all of a sudden I was getting that “page not found” message for. Thought perhaps the sites were down but after using a proxy server discovered they were working fine.

Anyway here lies the problem … if I browse the forum addresses I can’t find them, google them and it finds them but won’t access them, even tried just using the IP address still no good.

I’ve used AVG anti-spyware (found a couple of probs now sorted) and AVG virus software which found no threats.

I’ve switched off my firewall to see if that was the problem but still couldn’t access the sites.

I installed Firefox to check whether it was IE that was the problem … still no access.

I’ve been in and out of my internet tools checking whether the sites were blocked for whatever reason … can’t see anything amiss.

I can access this site and other forums without a problem so presume it’s nothing to do with a port being blocked.

Using a netgear router, this isn’t anything new though and not had problems before.

Anyway if you’ve managed to read that and not fall asleep any help appreciated.
    Cheers.

It looks like a java platform problem to me.

Re install it and see if that helps.[/b

Well I would offer some advice, but as Doa will tell you I reportedly charge a £1 a minute and also send pictures of him that contain viruses to unsuspecting victims! :D

For the benefit of the gullible twonk ‘Doa’. The post I made above was meant as a sarcastic dig and not true!

    :P

Thank God for that Yoda … for a moment I thought we were going to be treated to another of DOA’s rants.

As for Catz’s issue. How about this being caused by the Windows ”Hosts” file incorrectly resolving the URL of the target site??? Could that be a possibility???

Well PB is cheaper to ask.

Just ask his wife ,she is always calling him “cheap”.

Hi Catz, not sure if this helps, but links can be corrupted by malware, so a thorough look at your system is the first step, Spybot or a.n.other eg Stinger etc should help, also run something like Adaware, malware can even mess up wireless hook up so worth being thorough here

Now the next stage is registry stuff, the one that gets messed up is here

    ‘HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTInternetShortcut’

This is the file that gets corrupt, but an easier way and without messing with the registry is to get someone to email the links to you, then see if they open, if they do try shortcutting them to your fav folder and overwrite the old link (or simply delete all the non working links first)

    Let us know what happens

    Problem resolved. :D

Seems it was Virgin Media’s problem not mine.
