That was a statement from Susan Anderson from the Confederation of British Industry, speaking on the Channel 4 programme “the Inconvenient Truth” this week.
Political analysts were saying over the last year that the figure was 2.7 million, up 1.7 million since 1997.
In August the unemployment Job Seekers Allowence count was 852,900.
Why have around 2 million people sudenly become sick in the last 10 years?
War torn immigrants? Lazy people? Is it too easy to claim sick benefit?
Is it simply the case that we have 3 million unemployed as the early 80’s, but because of the natural wealth that modern day society has created, it really doesn’t matter?
Would investors worry if they seen dole cues?
Good ploy by New Labour to swell the “unemployment figures”?
Has the rich become richer, and the poor become poorer under New Labour? That wasn’t in their manifesto, quite the opposite.
Lies, lies lies, spin, spin, spin.
5 October, 2007 at 7:02 pm #290126It doesnt matter which party is in power, modern politics isnt about results, its about psychology and misdirection
The sick, the elderly, the young, the unemployed, the mentally ill. single mums, 4×4 drivers, smokers, drinkers, drivers, racists, immigrants, men, fathers, the french, the EU, terrorists etc etc are just some of the lists to blame for all of societies woes to distract the mindless majority away from realising the real reason the place is such a cesspit is the governments endless wastage of money
UK politics has been americanised over the last few decades, politicians now keep redirecting disdain towards a group who arent a significant amount of votes to lose and paint them blacker than black, then a few months later all the countries woes become the fault of another group on the list and so on whilst the bulk of the non thinking non questioning populace criticise who they are told to dislike and welcome with glee any policy that “sticks it to the scum” as long as that months scum isnt a group theyre part of
But a government cant really be blamed for doing that, infact they would be stupid not to when its obvious they can. The blame unfortunately rests with the apathy of the majority for sitting idly by and letting them do it
5 October, 2007 at 7:16 pm #290127On the topic of invalidity benefit tho, the people I have known well who have been or are on this list thusly
9 of them are single mothers 8 of which have ALWAYS been single mothers none of which can cope with raising their kids which are distributed to the order of 5 of them have 4 kids, 2 have 3 kids, one has 2 and one has 1 child
1 is an ex muslim who converted to christianity and suffered several years of constant abuse part of which was his wife forcibly being removed from his home with his three kids and being sent back to pakistan never to be seen again after 15 years of marriage, the final straw for his breakdown was when he moved out of bradford to Clitheroe in Blackburn the abuse, window smashings and assualts stopped being from other muslims and then started being from whites
4 of them were men who couldnt cope with the farce they had to go through trying to get access to see their kids when faced with obstructive ex’s combined with the crippling CSA demands, one committed suicide
4 men and 5 women have physical dissabilities
3 women and 1 man have mental disabilities
1 has (if you believe it actually exists) HIV
And 6 others, 4 men, 2 women I’m not 100% sure are actually THAT “incapacitated”, but some doctor somewhere obviously must do or they are just adept and pretending to be ill
Stress seems to be the biggest cause of people being on this benefit
Its easy to buy into the spin that they are all faking skiving scumbags, and a few years ago I did actually believe that. Now tho, seeing more of how much our society and social structure has eroded I’m not so sure and wonder whether its just easier for politicians to demonise people than it would be to try and turn round a rapidly decaying society and country

How many were stressed in 1948? It was horrific then compared to now, the structure of our entire society was in ruins, not just the family you belonged to.
Encouraged incapacity benefit…
