This was the first good idea Geoff’s had in his life. Anyone that want’s to have a pop at our arrogant, overrated Southern neighbours can do so here. :D
27 June, 2006 at 11:37 pm #228520Well I don’t think it’s wrong to hate the English Football (and Rugby) team with a passion. I certainly do. As far as we Scots are concerned they are our biggest rivals and it is more perverse for a Scot to say they want England to do well than it is to say we hope they get stuffed every time they take the field. You wouldn’t think it perverse for a Man City fan to say he hates Man Utd and you wouldn’t expect a Chelsea fan to want to see Arsenal win the European Cup – they wouldn’t be proper fans if they wanted to see their rivals do well now would they? I agreed with much of Geoff’s post on the Murray thread – I like to see British club teams and individuals do well at any sport and I would cheer them on as much as any Englishman (unless Scotland were represented of course). I remember cheering for Coe and Ovett and Cram and Bruno and Liverpool and Henman and Faldo and that rower bloke and countless others and will continue to do so but I will NEVER EVER wish the English Football team anything other than complete and utter humiliation. And the more you rubbish us and our game and say you see France, Germany and Argentina as rivals above us, the more I want to see you get taken down a peg or two. It’s not politics, it’s not bigotry – it’s football. And England are SHYTE btw…
27 June, 2006 at 11:45 pm #228521:lol: Furry muff. Though, you have to admit, even when we’re shite, we’re still one of the best teams in the world. I can’t believe there wasn’t even a bit of grudging respect for Joe Cole’s thirty yarder. Surely to deny the glorious nature of that is to denigrate the game as a whole.

being an english fan myself, i was not that impressed to be honest, seemed more a hit and hope if anything, the keeper should have done better, but maybe the dipping ball was the blame, not saying it was rubbish, but there has been at least 5 or 6 better goals scored so far
as for hating the english, they can hate us as much as they like.. supporting man united, i am used to it, and being english, we get it every 2 years
27 June, 2006 at 11:53 pm #228523:lol: I reckon if Ronaldinho had done it Clive Tyldesley would have come.
27 June, 2006 at 11:55 pm #228524:D probably, he has’nt seen to have done much this world cup though, but i am expecting the big players to start showing thier worth come next round
Rooney for one will do somthing very special next game, i can feel it
27 June, 2006 at 11:57 pm #228525It was a lucky toe-poke a bit like David Narey’s against Brazil in Spain
(To be fair, I think BM was the first to praise it about a minute after it went in if I remember correctly)
