Steve Coppell hailed his players after they clinched
promotion to the Premiership for the first time with a
1-1 draw at Leicester.
“This has been dream-like in many ways, but a dream
based on hard work and players of tremendous ability.
“They’re a small squad who give everything for the club
and we’ve had a tremendous year.
“We knew results were going our way, but we wanted a
decent result and just being there is a warm feeling inside.”Reading chairman John Madejski said:
“This is the fulfilment of a dream, it’s what we set out to do
16 years ago.”29 March, 2006 at 12:04 pm #172330Well done Reading – a remarkable achievement so early in the year . I still think it’s the weakest Championship I have ever see – but you can only beat whats there – so well done .
Good luck next season

That’s very insulting to 10 year olds! [-X
2 April, 2006 at 11:20 pm #172333I’d just like to say I thought Reading exceptionally unsporting at the weekend. What’s wrong with the common decency in going one – nil up after an hour, getting a quick second and then settling back for the comfortable win?
Surely it’s rude to press on and score five against your struggling fellow professionals? Jolly bad show. That attitude will not be looked upon with great approval in the Premier League. No, there they like good, properly conducted clubs like Sunderland who sportingly accept when they’re beaten and don’t make a fuss.

I couldn’t even bring myself to post on this, let alone gloat. 8-[
3 April, 2006 at 1:04 am #172335Had it been 5 – 0 against Stoke or Leeds, I’d probably be in the local hospital
right now suffering from a overgloat. :lol:But not against Derby. :(
30 April, 2006 at 8:28 pm #172336The Royals have set the highest-ever points tally in the English football history, with Graeme Murty’s 84th minute penalty earning a 2-1 win over a dogged QPR.
Graeme Murty’s late penalty helped Championship champions Reading set a new league points record of 106.
Murty’s strike – only his second goal in 280 Reading appearances – ensured the Royals topped Sunderland’s previous record of 105 in the 1998-99 season.
