As for the British Empire, they should be grateful for what we gave them. Railroads, science, education, trial by jury, parliamentary democracy. That actually made me laugh and on paper its very true.
Alot of what Toms says I agree with. Why is it ok for other countries to want what some people in Britain want and its acceptable there and not here?

Took us a long time to get where we are Kent, I don’t blame people from poorer countries for seeing our quality of life and wanting it for themselves and their loved ones. Thing is we are overcrowded already, and I’m sure once they get here many are disillusioned :roll:

No it didn’t offend. I was merely stating a fact. Benefits seems to be the reason people quote now, but when the majority of immigrants came to this country in the 50s 60s and early 70s the pull wasn’t benefits. It was work for better money than in their country.
My ancestors are farmers. And led a good life “back home”. My gran never did any housework, and they employed help to run the farms and work the land. If you think about it why the fk did they come here?
When my grandad was alive and he used to talk to us about the olden days he said he had every intention of going back home after a few years here. He did go home, but to die. He said children came along we started schools etc, the months turned quickly into years the years quickly turned into decades. They felt they couldn’t take us back to a country where we would find it difficult to survive.@tom wrote:
