They are used ,not evryone is fighter pilots.Educated or not its the law.
It’s not the Law as such, the Sharia Law is a basis for a lot of the ‘legal law’, but the two are different. Its a moot point whether a married woman actually obtains permission from hubby or takes it for granted it’ll be fine, and in many cases it is fine, not all male muslims agree with the ‘ male guardianship ‘ issue either. Obviously I am against it, its barbaric.
Gerry yes that was Saudi, it’s really hard to find anything specifically on Dubai, although the issue is this ‘male guardianship’ which all UAE / Muslim states live by, they are all pretty similar but certain aspects of it differ from State to State and country to country, as I said. It becomes less about geography and more about the Muslim religion really.
9 December, 2018 at 12:08 am #1110405The UAE is frequently described as an “autocracy“.[87][88] According to the New York Times, the UAE is “an autocracy with the sheen of a progressive, modern state”.[89] The UAE ranks poorly in freedom indices measuring civil liberties and political rights. The UAE is annually ranked as “Not Free” in Freedom House’s annual Freedom in the World report, which measures civil liberties and political rights.[90] The UAE also ranks poorly in the annual Reporters without Borders‘ Press Freedom Index.
9 December, 2018 at 12:20 am #1110406Yep I think we all pretty much agree on that ..
9 December, 2018 at 12:49 am #1110407I must say I find it highly amusing that the UK is on some of the same lists as the UAE.
9 December, 2018 at 9:36 am #1110416Well if you call it showing off holidaying in Dubai I for one will be showing off again soon.
As you all know my girl lives and works out there. I found it a wonderful place completely different as to what the western media portrays it.
The women I came across certainly had a lot more freedom than is being stated in these post. Maybe in the backward outback villages some still think and act like that.
would you all stop going to Indian / Pakistani because of how they treat the women ? I find these countries treat their women barbaric yet you would all still willy nilly holiday there!
I haven’t watched ‘ little princess ‘ nor do I intend to. We could pull an example of bad from every country ie as gee said ours being princess Diana.
Happy holidays folk.
9 December, 2018 at 9:38 am #1110417Watch Missing Princess BBC 4 i think, just google it ,,,,, all those tourists, oo ing and arring shameful…. yea God will intervene against all this torture and cruelty at some point. hopefully in the next 100 years … he does like to mull things over .. should ppl visit spend money in a ‘state’ like that ? I wouldn’t !! not now
Not seen the program yet but I will Moosey at some point….reading the rest of the thread I think I got the gist of things
I have been to Dubai a few times and I’m not ashamed to say that I had some lovely holidays there and it was where I got engaged
Lots of countries have issues that are not acceptable to the western world….and trust me lots of those countries don’t like some of the western worlds ways.
So my motherland is India….poverty….child exploitation….lots of people holiday there….I would like to think women are equal in India but I am sure there will be some castes or religions or regions where women are not
Personally we all boycott things that are personal to us or we dislike….I remember my brother when he was 16 telling me we cant buy anything from South Africa in the shops
I hope I am not making light of the thread because I haven’t seen the program if I have then I apologise….I shall repost once I have seen it
9 December, 2018 at 9:59 am #1110420Yes good point kenty. I made the mistake again of posting a thread having just watched the programme, so a bit emotional … showing off was bad wording. I know loads of people who go and love it. My best friend went recently and loved it apart from the heat, as I said my niece has worked and lived there over 10 years many members of my family go frequently, the only reason I haven’t is that there were places I wanted to go to more. I think kenty as you’ve read the whole thread you got a better understanding of my meaning. This isn’t about some backward little village the programme is about The Crown Princes daughter. One of the richest and most powerful men in the world. Yes, as Ge pointed out it has progressed beyond measure in the last 20 years and appears to be a beautiful, cosmopolitan and modern place, it’s also become much more affordable in the last 5-6 years, especially if you have family to stay with. The post is more to do with Male Guardianship than anything else, I admit wrongly titled. Sorry Kenty, I had no intention of spoiling a lovely memory i’m Pretty sure I won’t have , hope your doing ok, nice to see you xxx
9 December, 2018 at 10:14 am #1110422Good to see you back Kenty,x
I would love to go to Egypt given half the chance.I wouldent think twice about it because i have always wanted to go and see the historey.
You cant help thinking about the human rights issus, the womans rights issus.Thats what thethreads about. The prinsess Sheikha Latifa bint hasent been seen for about 9 months,The last time she wanted to escape she spent nearly four years in prison, tortured all the while.A statment says shes home safe and well, she will be home but i doubt she will be well. Her sister did the same tried to escape and she is controlled now with medication to the point she is being led about by the hand, acording to the princess sheikha.I think the world want to see for themselvs she is well.
Makes you think.

.
Parts of India would be interesting to see but I’d sooner cut my balls off with a rusty breadknife than go to Pakistan… each to their own tho.
Regardless of the glamour of Dubai, it is a muslim country where you can be imprisoned for kissing a woman in public. Simply because many have had good holidays there doesn’t detract from the underlying archaic values they have compared to what we deem acceptable in the Uk . Saudi Arabia for eg up until recently would have arrested a female drving a car as they were deemed to be beneath men incapable of driving and many of those values permeate through all muslim countries regardless of how many fancy sky scrapers there are.
Having said that where is safe to visit… knife crime here , riots in paris, rife disease in huge areas of Africa, people being shot daily in north/south America, the case of that young girl backpacker in New Zealand from the Uk being murdered in the week just gone by. The worlds a fairly grim place.
9 December, 2018 at 12:51 pm #1110427Look how Aisha Bibi was recently treated in Pakistan.
Intresting how we wouldn’t let her live here due to security fears and civil unrest.
That is a real refugee in fear of her life.
God bless new zealend for letting her in .
