As tours/guides are helpful I find those who live outside planned visits and sites are so much more fun when you let your hair down, be natural and fun.
I have been told North Snowdonia National park for a visit and mapping my own ideas. Any other thoughts?
    Thanks

Edinburgh is a must – the Royal mile and the castle.

But use Stirling as a base in Scotland, Linda.

It’s an interesting and historic town in itself, but it’s also a town which gives you good access to the Highlands.

In case you haven’t found out yet, the lowlands are the more urbanised, industrialised parts of Scotland, and the Highlands are the more picturesque, mountainous part.

Apologies top Scots for such a simplified version of a very beautiful country.

Try also to get to the Western isles, perhaps Lewis. be careful of the habits of the place – when they advertise a ceilidh for 8pm, the only people who turn up at 8pm are American tourists. It usually starts about 3 hours later. The islanders also have a wry humour, and they have been known to play jokes on tourists.

If you can get there – transport is difficult – the Northern isles are worth a visit. Orkney was really lovely the last time I was there – Kirkwall is the ‘biggest’ town, but visit Skara Brae, a preserved Stone Age settlement, and take a look at the coastline nearby the settlement. Hire a bicycle to get round, and make sure the weather is nice.

have a great holiday here, Linda xx

Perfect, thanks. I have not had vacation/holiday for some time. Flying the coup single. Going to take little time put together. When I told my staff 2 days ago I need to fly away all laughed, mouth drops and “you!” It will be early next year. Looking already, do not think want tourist time. From what I researched so far is April or May a better time? I enjoy cool weather.. thanks

Snowdonia is a spectacular setting at any time of year. As a regular visitor to North wales i can recommend a few nice places to visit. Depending on what you like.  You must try snowdons mountain railway, you climb aboard and head towards the summit on an unforgettable scenic journey. If your fit enough you can walk but be prepared for changes in weather it can get dangerous.  Try the spectacular Menai Strait and try the art of boat zipping along the coast at up to 50 miles per hour. A journey to the largest breakwater in Britain. You can visit slate caverns, The ugly house for refreshments it’s a cute and unusual place for a picnic, and an eye catching starting point for a wander through the enchanting surrounding woodlands. Another nice place is Port Meirion and visit the model village or stroll around the town.  The best beach is in Penmaenmawr it is 40 miles from Snowdonia. If you are looking for a victorian seaside town head to Llandudno plenty of things to do here, a ride up the great orme or head down to bodafon farm its free entry with plenty to do for kids and adults. The national bird trust is based there, they have rescued and injured birds of prey  http://bodafonfarmpark.com/..

All great suggestions. If I may also add……the Scottish highlands are a must. Last time we went there, our chalet had a direct view of Ben Nevis. We have also stayed on the banks of Loch Ness.  Scotland is stunning.

You might find this thread interesting/helpful, too — I don’t know if Scotland/Wales is mentioned but it may provide some inspiration:

    Promote where you live

    Have a great trip!

Thank you all so far for awesome areas to explore. Reading tourist books not my cup of tea.! I like opinions who have hands on experience.. Writing everything down provided by you all.
I love scenic areas. I am fit, and not one who is not willing to try or challenge new experiences. With exception to being surrounded or stuck in a snake pit. Now that I would not do.
Ladies call me a romantic, guys well you may consider me mushy, I am strong. However but the mention of “Stirling Forrest” had my heart beat and the Highlands. I absolutely love the books and movies. I KNOW MUCH FANTASY, but true history also very interesting. I am a highlander fan of the series, Braveheart, Arthur, Camelot etc. Love the link provided for Bodafon farm and mountain railway. All so exciting.
For many of us here the “Renaissance” fairs are our best as “Castles” are lacking. Hee. But I am surrounded in my area by many well known actors who are my neighbors, as well as our President and Clinton (x).
So you can experience what we are provided the first link is to a fair held every August short time. 40 minues drive from home. The second New Jersey medieval times hour and a half drive from home. Push on links to show you some shows of the performances which direct you to “Youtube.”

Find site “medieval Times lyndhurst, New Jersey.” As close as we get,I go once a year.
