Come across this video on youtube about Vigilante Justice in South Africa.
It’s quite a long video and a have not watched it all, but the opening 6 minutes i thought was interesting.
About a young girl who was raped by ten men and how the police only arrested two out of the ten even though she knew all their names.
Maybe we need some of this punishment over here to sort out some of the problems.10 May, 2008 at 11:14 am #335101She was very reserved in her wishes when asked what she would like them to do, most people might say kill them or cut off parts of there anatomy, but she said just beat them.
Poor bloody girl! And why is it they won’t arrest the rest of them and only take 2, very suspicious.

Bloody good for her, they got EXACTLY what they deserved. Some of the police brutality was dreadful, especially to the poor guy who lay seriously injured in the back of that truck, but for that girl, good on ya. Bet they won,t do it again. Bastards.
10 May, 2008 at 10:25 pm #335103well i suppose cos they live in the same street and she knows them she cant of got it wrong but my only concern would be what if she was lieing ? though to an extent im all for vigilante’s esp in crimes like rape, simply because the justice system, here at least, sucks and is far too soft.
And it was only a beating they could have been killed or mutilated, their whipping scars will heal, i doubt very much the psychological ones she has from such an assault will, and i bet they’ll give it a second thought next time,10 May, 2008 at 10:57 pm #335104Everyone will know why they got it as well  just thing its great that they asked her what she wants done with them and they let her have the first whippings. Its easy to feel sorry for them becuase they looked young thats why the youngsters get way with so much here, but you got to rememeber what they have supposed to of done.

I feel sorry for the girl, if she was raped. But what if some of them where innocent? What if she had got it wrong?
Or, alternatively, what if they were all guilty??? What if she had got it absolutely right???

Which is why we need courts of law to to determine the guilty from the innocent.

Of course when they do return a finding of “Guilty” we then enter the long drawn out “it must have been a miscarriage of justice” phase before deciding that ‘they’ were innocent after all.
I think that these South Africans got it about right.
