Hi
Most vegetarians I know are overweight. I put it down to the fact they are always hungry and therefore I always see them snacking on crisps, chocolate etc etc etc.
The human body was designed to be omnivorous – to cut meat out of your diet you need to be very careful that you are still getting all the nutrients your body needs (which can be done, it just takes a lot more planning in your diet).
Lmao

so do you think it was going veggie that helped you lose the weight or did you change lifestyle as well (exercise, more sleep, drink water etc)
Interested cos Ive put on a stone or two over the last year n looking to lose a little bit back to my ideal weight- any personal experiences (on losing weight!!) would be welcome
Just stumbled across this topic today. Recently my husband was diagnosed with dangerously high cholesterol. He’s only 31, but has a very high genetic disposition. Anyway, because of this, he’s turned vegetarian (Animal meat contains a lot of Cholesterol) – hence, I’ve turned vegetarian  . I do still eat chicken  and never have liked cow meat and to quote Samuel L. Jackson in Pulp Fiction – “I don’t dig on Swine”. So cutting meat, adding lots of vegetables and fruit, adding nuts and peanut butter for protein, regular exercise, and drinking loads of water, the pounds are melting off. My husband was over weight by about 40 lbs and I recently had a baby. We’re both loosing between 2-5 lbs a week. In about a month I should be back to my pre-baby body and he hasn’t been this thin in about 8 years.Good Luck to you Slayer!
12 January, 2007 at 7:05 pm #255462I am a veggie and love it! I dont eat fish or eggs. I am healthy i feel ok. Although my mom did give up meat for a few months and it made her ill. I just think people are different.
12 January, 2007 at 9:31 pm #255463Yeah, Becky – different things affect different people in different ways.
I lost a load of weight, looked ill, felt ill, had no energy at all, my strength was weakened, as was my immune system – I’ve had some sort of illness where I’m bringing up some kind of acidic bile crap up in my throat for months now and it still hasn’t gone away even thoguh I’m feeling healthy etc again.
I’m NEVER ill. I have a high tolerance to things. But being veggie, I started getting illnesses like normal people.
I still have whatever it is with my throat, it seems to swell my Adam’s apple, not pleasant, but it’s not as bad as it used to be.
So I think vegetarianism just doesn’t agree with my body at all!
