As all can probably remember, I was formerly a vegetarian.
I lost a lot of weight in a small amount of time, from 16 stone in March, I am now 11 stone, lost it all whilst being vegetarian.
A friend of mine said “I was looking ill in the face”. Deep eye-sockets, pale face.
After eating meat for a couple of months, I’m feeling healthy, and the same friend says I’m looking a lot better and “have a glow to my face now”.
What is it exactly about meat that humans seem to need?
7 January, 2007 at 12:49 pm #255449are you back to 16 stone or have you settled at a good weight and staying there? Did you miss “meat”?
7 January, 2007 at 12:57 pm #255450I’m still 11 stone. I think my metabolism has sped up, plus I’m more active now.
And yes, I did miss meat.
I was walking past the village sandwich shop one day and the smell of the bacon was just too much. I HAD to have a bacon sandwich!
7 January, 2007 at 12:59 pm #255451so do you think it was going veggie that helped you lose the weight or did you change lifestyle as well (exercise, more sleep, drink water etc)
Interested cos Ive put on a stone or two over the last year n looking to lose a little bit back to my ideal weight- any personal experiences (on losing weight!!) would be welcome
7 January, 2007 at 1:05 pm #255452Being veggie, obviously, a lot less fat intake etc – No fry ups.
You can hardly be fat when you’re not eating bacon soaked in lard innit.
Plus alcohol, I was drinking much less during the summer cos I dehydrate easy so when it’s hot I avoid alcohol – There’s about the same amount of calories in one pint as there is in a full Christmas dinner.
Was drinking on average 4-6 pints per day, that’s the same calories as 6 Christmas dinners everyday innit.
I’ve been pigging out loads lately on meaty stuff, and haven’t gained a lb.
As for lifestyle, bit of stress due to personal reasons, which can cause either weight loss or gain, in my case it could have helped with loss – So the stress was good in the long run.
But, ultimately, it was the vegetarianism I think. Ate nothing but quorn stuff, it’s all less than 5% fat etc etc

8 January, 2007 at 3:11 pm #255456Hi
Most vegetarians I know are overweight. I put it down to the fact they are always hungry and therefore I always see them snacking on crisps, chocolate etc etc etc.
The human body was designed to be omnivorous – to cut meat out of your diet you need to be very careful that you are still getting all the nutrients your body needs (which can be done, it just takes a lot more planning in your diet).
