Now come on !!! You know i’m talking absolute sense. The cost of a measly bunch of flowers in the run up to 14th February will at least double and in some places treble in price, or more.

On 15th February, as if by some sort of magic, they revert back to their ‘usual’ price.

God forbid that you should take out a second mortgage to buy a bunch of a dozen roses prior to the 14th. Wait until 15th and they’ll be begging you to buy them.

All you’ve got to do chaps is to zip it up until 15th and you’ll save a fortune. If you really can’t wait – go to a ‘professional’ …. they’re a damn sight cheaper in the long run than ‘amateurs’.

    Just to clarify PB……

    I don’t want roses
    I don’t want a card
    I don’t want diamonds
    I don’t want a fancy meal

Sometimes it would be nice just to be hugged, kissed and told how much you are loved and appreciated (without trousers being unzipped)

Mr Velvet is of the opinion that it is all a commercial ripoff so lucky old me gets sweet nothing every year… this goes for easter anniversarys and xmas too… he’s such a giving soul and im lucky if i get a birthday card

…..and he’s 100% absolutely right!!! Valentine’s Day is a total commercial ripoff solely designed to make women feel good about themselves and feel wanted.

Men are in essence blackmailed into splurging out on stupid gifts at inflated prices with the threat of “You don’t really love me any more” if they choose to be frugal. This is of course before the ‘refusal to copulate’ card is played.

So, in their untiring search for ever more fornication, men are ripped off vast amounts of hard-earned cash and all in the name of St Valentine.

So then PB, have you decided yet what your buying for senior management, or still unsure   8)

Well I tried to buy some old & very cheap Valentine’s cards at Matalan last year – but the tight fisted locals got them all before me. Hmmmm

Senior management isn’t the problem – she’s Italian and they don’t do Valentine’s Day there. The big problem is my daughter. SHE literally demands a card from her Daddy – and how can I refuse???

I refuse to go out for dinner (see above reasons) so I shall prepare a ‘bumper’ meal for supper and then sit back all smug & self-satisfied secure in the knowledge that my ‘Brownie point’ score has been added to and I’ve saved loads of money into the bargain.

I call that a ‘win win’.

We got ripped off when my dad died coz he inconveniently died near to valentines day and the florist charged us the hyped up prices for his funeral flowers.
Anyway… I worked in a florist once at valentines… and heres a secret… they bought in at pre valentines prices and kept the roses in the fridge for as long as poss then charged the earth for them… i had the misfortune of being the mug on the end of the phone dealing with the complaints for poor quality.
