The 60 kittens with just six days to live … because no-one wants to give them a home in the credit crunch
Resting in a row, these three kittens – just a few weeks old – are looking for nothing more than care and friendship.
But they – along with 57 other kittens and 23 adult cats – will be dead within the week, the victims of a the credit crunch.
Their current home normally operates as a last hope for cats, an ‘overflow’ facility which looks after animals when there is no room at other cat’s homes or the RSPCA.
But staff say because of the recession and dwindling charity donations the home is now closing down – with no home for the felines.

Kittens saved after global appeal…YayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyOffers of support from around the world have saved kittens at a rescue centre from being put down.
Fears had been raised about the future of the kittens at the Decoy Kitten Rescue centre in Newton Abbot, Devon after a visit from the bailiffs.
The centre faced a vets bill of £800 which it could not pay.
But after the kittens’ plight was revealed, offers of cash support have been coming in from as far afield as the Cayman Islands and Australia.

1 November, 2009 at 12:54 pm #420518I’m glad they were saved – a sad story with a happy ending. Of course they are just 6 animals and loads of other rescue cats and dogs aren’t so lucky, unfortunately.
We have three rescue cats, all 6 years old now. In our case, I imagine that if we hadn’t had them, someone else would have done.
I wish the kittens and their new owners well. I wish their sofas and curtains well too, although that might be a little unrealistic.
1 November, 2009 at 6:41 pm #420519OK.. i love kittens as much as the next person but I am not a sentimentalist. I am a realist. The reality is, there are too many pets in this country whose owners do not look after them properly. One way of looking after your pets is to have them neutered. When there is a recession, pets suffer. The reality of too many unwanted animals is that they have to be put down. This lot of animals were saved, but there are still hundreds and thousands of unwanted animals out there.
Something far more stringent should be done to prevent people letting their animals produce offspring. If the majority of pets were neutered, the amount of unwanted animals would diminish.
Its elementary innit.
