Amy Winehouse and Pete Doherty have been named as the UK’s ultimate heroes according to a poll of around 2000 youngsters. Maybe it’s just me, but I think it says a lot that two people probably as famous for (if not more) their lifestyles as they are for their achievements are deemed heroes.
Is that the kind of role model the younger generation want? When I was a child, my hero was Ally McCoist – that’s who I wanted to be and I’m still a huge fan of his. Changed days indeed.
Very sad that kids see off the rail addicts as heroes, even more sign that kids today lack decency and respect for themselves and others, very sad state of affairs, i’m not saying that they dont have talent they might have, but that becomes useless when you ruin your life.
Maybe they will both take this new social responsibility seriously and realise that now they are heroes they need to show the correct way for kids to go (can always hope) :roll:Think you’re hoping too much there :lol: Fair enough, they’re not the first artists to be addicts and they’re not the first addicts to be idolized, I’m a Nirvana fan ffs so I’d have a cheek to be critical of anyone for being a fan of a band or singer with problems, but to class them as heroes for their generation is a step too far.
