This debate has been raging all day on Sky Sports News so what do you reckon?

Personally, I think clubs are wrong to launch an appeal if a player is shown a straight red card for it. What sort of message does that send out? Would they, in turn, be happy if one of their players was stretchered off due to a two footed tackle but the player only got a yellow card?

I agree. But I also think each case should be dealt with on its on, with a bit of common sense. (referees and common sense hardly go together though!)

Yep, there’s far too much inconsistency – as always. They were trying to highlight the difference between the red card offences and the yellow card offences but tbh there wasn’t much if any.

Problem with common sense is, where do you draw the line? Certain players and certain clubs have too much influence for it to be sustainable anyway.

    Obviously intentional = red card
    Obviously accidental = yellow card

    Simple!

Simple in theory perhaps. But whether it’s intentional or not, it’s still dangerous play. The player knows he’s doing it and knows the potential consequences for all involved. So it’s difficult to argue that it wasn’t intentional, why go in two footed anyway? Surely these players know how to tackle? If they don’t then they shouldn’t be on the pitch as they’re a liability to everyone.

a 2 footed tackle should be an instant red card

and if you pardon my french…..it is also the tackle of a shytebag
