I would not move to Canada…been and it’s ok for a holiday but not to live for me….the kids can live in Canada through their dads citizenship and although they love it there and are going out in June they prefer America.
For me…I think I am happy here….I woudln’t want to live in a country where it is so hot all the time although I love the summers here…when I have been abroad in the summers I find the 1 or 2 weeks enoughi’d move to Canada tomorrow if i had the money, my Uncle lives there and has said he’d sponser me just health and money stopping me atm.
As for hot all the time, depends on where abouts you go, lol Chocolate just got out from under the amount of snow she had this winter.

If I m0ved abroad on a permanent basis it would be Corfu
feck the if, when are we moving lol, i was there a few years ago, just beautifull and i love the greeks there soo nice.
Thought Ireland was small, we rented a jeep and traveled the whole island (Corfu) in about 2 hours.
29 April, 2012 at 7:17 pm #494731I’m not a major globe trotter, but been a few places, and i for one would happily move to Canada British Columbia around Vancouver area its beautiful really really nice there, have quite alot of family out there too, and atleast they have seasons.
Southern Ireland another place i could happily live, down south i think would be my preference, in a rural location.
Wouldn’t fancy france, or spain, canary islands gig or the likes, at all.
But am very happy where i am in the South West of England, very few places could ever compare.(except at the moment whilst in this drought  )29 April, 2012 at 8:13 pm #494732I have been fortunate enough to live in some nice areas of England, the New Forest in Hampshire, south Devon, west Oxfordshire and a very nice village in Warwickshire. I also spent 10 years working in Maastricht in Holland and it was nice watching the Amstel Gold Cycling race the other weekend which is held there every year.
I spent many summer holidays in Europe as a child and Helen and I spent many summer holidays abroad in Western Europe and a lot of weekends in the Benelux and Germany areas while I worked in Maastricht.
From those experiences we had always planned to retire to France because we like the lifestyle here and when we had the chance to move earlier we took it.
Some people who move abroad seek what they had at home, just down the road is an English shop selling UK goods. We never go. There used to be a bar here run by an English person but it failed because the French were not made to feel welcome.
I can understand why people would want to go to different countries and some are very beautiful. Vancouver is a place we have friends and I can easily understand the attraction of living there. We ahve friends in New Zealand and it is a place we would love to visit.
But at the end of the day, if you have the choice to live where you would like then take the chance and do so. For us France is where we like to be and as anc said we do try to avoid the ex-pats. That is really the only downside for us – there are lots of people who move here but expect to only speak English and they do not integrate into the local life, and they call on us when they need to know how to do things involving the French.
For us France is home
