When you get your program punched cards back from the bureau, pat them neatly in to a pile, then draw a thick diagonal line from one corner to the other, across the card edges. If a card comes out of place, it will be easy to spot as the line will be broken. Also, program changes will be easier to spot as they will have no mark on the card edge.
