A friend of ours lives in Brisbane, today he sent us links to some videos that a friend took from their third floor office window. The video starts off showing a creek just 50 yards from their office that apparently is running a lot higher than usual, then before your eyes a flash flood hits and for 10 minutes he films the water rising – the speed is truly incredible – and cars being washed away, a shipping container floating passed, ripped up trees. You can hear the shocked comments from everyone in the office as they weren’t expecting it at all. Then 10 minutes later the water level drops as quickly as it rose and a raging torrent is just an everyday creek again, with only the debris left behind as any indication that anything unusual has happened.
Unfortunately I can’t get the links up here, but the speed of it is breathtaking, it brings it home to you just why they are called flash floods, how easily people can get caught unawares, and how devasting it is.

On behalf of my Aussie counterparts facing terrible times, I thank you for your kind thoughts. I am fortunate enough to be in a safe place but I have many friends who are now facing hardship through loss of homes and businesses. None of my friends luckily have lost their lives , but I know there are those today who are facing such an ordeal.
I love the Aussie Spirit , they are in the midst of climatic chaos but still they laugh. They still reach out to help a neighbor and just get on with whatever needs doing. I’m so Proud to be an oz.
As a nation we will be OK because we know how to band together and move forward when times are tough. This wont break Australia it will just make us greater.
