A married priest who abandoned his family and ran off with his deputy has been barred for life from being a priest. The Rev Canon James Tipp, 63, ren away with his partner Rev Elaine Northern and left their parishioners in Snodland, Kent to fend for themselves.

By contrast, the Rev Teresa Davies, who admitted holding several services whilst she was drunk and who – by her own admission – had sexual intercourse with a number of strangers and took part in ‘wife swapping’ holidays was only banned for 12 years.

This seems to be a bit unjust.

On the one hand we have a male priest who abandoned his wife, several children, and his parishioners to elope with his assistant gets banned for life; whereas on the other hand a female priest who puts it around all over the place, shags strangers and is regularly pissed during church services only gets 12 years.

What do you think …. is the Church simply being biased, bigoted and sexist, or is there an underlying point to all this???

I think it comes down to female clergy not being afforded the same importance as the men, therefore their indiscretions are regarded as of lesser significance and therefore their punishments less draconian.

What swines the Church Ecclesiastical Court are …. but you may well be right Esme. The female deputy (Elaine Northern) only got 12 years as well whereas her male partner (James Tipp) got a lifetime ban. Hmmmmm.

That said, we may have uncovered evidence of ageism here as well. James Tipp was 63 so a 12 years ban would have made him 75 …. long past his retirement age.

A life ban means that the bastards avoid paying him his pension. Just kick him out to rot for an innocent bit of ‘rumpy pumpy’. Hmmmmm yet again.

I take it there going to become hard up in the future so there making some financial cutbacks?

So they found a way to save one pension fund (would not comment) on the female element of this story as like living too much :? :)

………. on the other hand –

    – is it possible, only slightly possible maybe, that this display of immoral behaviour is a consequence of having females ordained as priests???

Some of you may recall that when females were originally eligible for ordination, there were many voices amongst the priesthood who expressed grave comcern.

Now we have the spectacle of drunkeness, fornication, and possibly even greater depravity in the priesthood.

Can this simply be a coincidence ….. or are there darker forces at work here???

The drunkeness I can handle, Think nothing of this minor slight over seeable issue however fornicating with a ”number” of strangers I can only presume was done to keep the congregation intact?

Can you imagine the sudden upsurge of religion in the local male community, All advising that it was for the inner good to go to church on a sunday to their partner and wondering if they were going to get a gobble in the belfry on the way out for a donation in the tray!

It may have been seen as wife swap or get on your knees and pray I dont bite with a parochial twist, someone from the USA has to exploit this into a reality show

It looks to me like the Church is again showing true to form, It’s gone for the kill on the party less likely to bite back and avoids what’s not very PC.

The church also has many powers but rarely uses them, Some date back a long way like they could pass onto who-ever they like within the realms of the local parish the cost of a new roof to anyone they seem to wish.

Only this last two or three years has a parish search been part of a house purchase survey and advice been to insure against such a request from the church for repairs.

Imagine pi55ing of Teresa D and getting a Invoice through your letter box for a new roof to the church like just a cool half a million quid etc etc

Be interesting to see where the press take this and how the congregation to sunday service may grow LOL

callme cynical but…. sureley the fact that he ABANDONED his wife and children were a clue ? the female [slapper] preist is single and her not so chaste lifestyle just makes the abstainers jealous. the church bosses would better serve their parishoners if they sorted the paedos out first, and leave the fekless and the stupid be.

er ….. without wishing to unnecessarily disrupt the flow of your argument Waspish …… but the female priest was in fact married as well.

    Banned for twelve years..
And what are the chances of her wanting to return to that? Twelve years is a long time.. They’re probably hoping she’ll not want to return.. Being leniant because she’s female of course, which throws the so-called Equal Rights out of the window..

NOW,.. I bet if this was the other way around, oh there’d be hell to pay.. (Wrong choice of words when mentioning Gods servants).. But i’m right aren’t i?
