OH, excuse me lil fek- i didnt realise women (not children!) were so passive- perhaps if women kept their legs closed and their self respect intact, this wouldnt happen…….just a thought
24 November, 2006 at 6:32 pm #249994I have read what has been said on this thread, and felt i should comment.
I agree with Slayer – the age of consent set at 16 is there for a reason, it was put there to protect girls under 16 from being taken advantage of by older teens and adults.
If my child (who is 14) was encouraged to have sex by any man whatever their age, I would be horrified. She isn’t ready to have sex with anyone yet, emotionally i mean, forget the physical side of things for a moment! She is still a child.
I am aware that people age differently, and i had a friend when i was at school who started a physical relationship with her boyfriend at the age of 14. He was in our year at school, and they didn’t take the situation lightly but made sure they got contraceptive advice etc. They ended up getting married too, but it didn’t make it right. I remember thinking she was too young to deal with the intensity of emotion, and that she had to grow up too fast as a result, and so did he. I firmly believe that the age of 16 is the correct age of consent.
The idea that it is ok for a 30 year old man to have sex with a 13 year old and not have to suffer any consequences is frightening. If it became accepted in our society, then what is to stop the limits being altered slowly. In ten years we could find that it has become acceptable for a 35 year old to have sex with a 12 year old, and then in another ten years for a 40 year old to have sex with a 10 year old.
The fact is that any child under the age of 16 is just that …. a child. And they all deserve protection from abuse whilst at a vulnerable age. If i had a son, and he was say 17, and wanted to have a 15 year old girlfriend, i would expect him to wait until she was 16 before he even suggested they have sex. What is wrong with everyone!!!! Have people forgotten that the word NO exists?????
25 November, 2006 at 2:09 am #249995He didn’t say he wanted to change the age of consent, he was just questioning whether sex between teenagers should be a police matter. Maybe it should be decriminalized. Parents need to teach their kids to behave responsibly because you can’t have a policeman in every bedroom.
I’ve listened to Americans say exactly the same thing as you were saying but about sex with anyone under 18. They say anyone who isn’t 18 isn’t mature enough to have a sexual relationship and is still a child. In contrast, the age of consent in Germany is 14 and they would probably wonder what all the fuss is about with this story.
25 November, 2006 at 8:41 am #249996I this is abit of a joke.
Only a hand full of people have sex before there 16 years old.
A lot of teenage boys say they do, but its all bs.
I can’t help but think is problem only affects parents fears, and does nothing to help teenages who are having sex.
Roger Williams, Liberal Democrat MP for Brecon and Radnorshire, said Mr Grange’s comments were “unhelpful.” He said: “The law is quite clear that having sex with somebody under 16 is an offence. By bringing doubt into the issue, I don’t think he has helped the issue and he has made it less clear.”
Lets all face the facts, we have all been thru this at school, we all remember wot its like, and its not the job for police.

The age of consent in Germany is 14??? I never knew that. That is FAR too young. For a start at 14, not only are you in no way emotionally mature, but your body hasnt finished growing yet. For Gods sake what is the big rush these days to have sex?Why cant kids just be kids for while? They,ve got the rest of their lives to be “grown ups”. I agree with you Mr B, parents should teach their children, and thats what they are at 14 and 16, whether they like it or not, to behave responsibly, and not be in such a bloody rush to have sex.

6 December, 2006 at 2:24 pm #249999ok i have to put my four pennies worth in here
this is a grey area i agree with him completely, now wrongly or rightly i had sex 2 weeks before i reached my 16 birthday,i had been in a relationship with the man in question who was 5 years older for 2 years at this point, it just happened wasnt planned was heat of the moment though we had previously prepared for the eventuality so was fully protected we continued the relatioship for a further 2 years after, now i felt ready wasnt pushed or co-erced in fact quite the opposite, it could have happened earlier if it wasnt for both our morality installed in us by our parents but yes it happened no i dont regret it and i certainly dont see him as a paedophile. Ok so we didnt get married i wasnt a virgin bride when i did, but then i was taught the morals of sex without being made to feel i had to stay a virgin until my wedding night, though i think my dad would have liked that really lol but was not stupid enough to think that would happen unless i wanted it too, so what im trying to say is there is times where i really dont think someone should be classed as a paedophile, saying that i personally think paedophiles should just be put to sleep like a rabid dog, but true paedophiles, and that is when it gets difficult to say what is classed as one i guess PIECE SAID lol -
