I have no words to add to that.

If you can read all of that and not imagine how you would feel in the same situation, if you cannot find compassion in your heart and still feel that we can’t take any more or they’re only coming here for an easy life, then I can only hope that you are in the vocal minority.

Jen, that makes me feel there are human beings on this board, instead of just idiots making a big to-do about where I have lived in my life

Idiots – I’ll answer when I see the point. Otherwise, pursue your silly game to your heart’s content.

It is a question of humanity in the end, Jen, isn’t it?

Nobody is saying that people in a country shouldn’t think of themselves, Lucy. But the Irish economy and society are something else – I only know that the economy has been in a mess because some characters at the top are nothing but shysters and crooks who aroused the universal disgust of the Irish people when they landed their country in a far worse crisis than others. They’ve now got over the worst, but if you want to know why Ireland has prospered in the past compatred with the time when their economy was totally dominated by the British, then google Whittaker Report, 1958, and think EU and free movement of labour and captial. You have your own problem of poverty and cruelty to overcome, but that doesn;t mean you think only of yourselves. We all ahve problems, but thinking of others should come naturally if you want to avoid becoming a crabbed person.

Trapper, how many people could the UK take in terms of refugees? A lot more than 20,000 by all accounts. We’re the most successful economy in Europe. And instead of thinking Britian, start thinking EU and we can help others.

    Jen,
the UN have set a legal obligation on countries to take care of refugees. There is also a moral obligation. Well done for posting your stuff on here. =D> =D> =D>

Where do we house them ? A refugee family with three children what do we do.. does the taxpayer pay the rent on housing while a UK family can’t afford to rent especially with the welfare cuts being brought in. According to reports the NHS is in a critical near collapse system, aren’t refugees gonna cause more strain on this. Can you afford the best (if any) health insurance when it does collapse.
We can’t just have an open border, we just can’t
