I was 19, the pay was minimum wage or just under (im convinced) and my job was a  potato grader. The bags of spuds that didnt sell in the shops would be sent back to the factory where they would get re-washed and I would stand at a convour belt ALL day watching spuds going by and take out the bad ones. Yes i too am surprised the famine hasn’t returned. Rat infected shìthole (the factory not just the country  ) Although we did get away with being stoned all day too.

When I was 14 and 15 in the school holidays I used to work to help my mum make ends meet as she was widowed at the age of 32 and had 4 of us to bring up on her own.
I used to get up at silly o’clock to get on a van that took loads of workers to London, to the East End sweat shops. I used to do piece work and get I think it was 3p per hem on a denim skirt or a pair of jeans. At the time I quite enjoyed it (and I met my first love) and made pretty decent money. But when I think back now..it’s horrifying as there was no health or safety.
    *the good ole days*
