    Absolutely love Selector. 8)

Pauline Black now gigs (and has done for over ten years) with Four Men and a Black … made up of such legends as Jake Burns, Jean jaque Burnell, et al. They do change the order but Jake Burns and Pauline Black have always done it. Go wtach them it is well worth it.

Is this thread about two-tone, reggae or ska ?

It seems to be more about the first (which like lovers rock is English) because these can be very different things. How about rock steady, dancehall, ragga, dub or even mento ?

Jamaica, that melting pot of so many different cultures; a small island in the Caribean that is responsible for so much fantastic and innovative music. Check out what the sound engineers and original dj’s were doing long before we had hip-hop or rap. But then as in the case of blues (and humanity) you can trace these rhythms all the way back to Africa. Black music tends to accentuate the off-beat and, quite simply, I love it.

And yes, Jerry Dammers is a very cool guy too.

I widened the title so more of everything can be added.

    I aint even started yet.

    Is that ok?

My apologies…. reading that back it sounds a bit abrupt.

What I meant was it is not My thread, but with time will gather infulences and links from all, I never introduced it as my project, nor did I mean it to just be about one genre, thats just how the first couple links came up.

I will be adding more (you so know that!)…. Im going to be looking for some gregory Isaacs…. etc, so Jamaica will be embraced, in more ways than one.

Then again, I may even add some Blondie (debbie harry)…. who “rapped” before she did?

Id love to know the answer to that.

    Rapture 8)

Shazza, you me chat-mate and it’s cool. You’ve started a great thread and its appreciated. I wasn’t criticising you but do like to differentiate between the originals and what got produced here in England. I have too much love for the music not to do otherwise. I’m like that. And I like ‘Rapture’ too but know what the lovely Deborah was playing at there. now….

    is that ok ?

Ska was the forerunner for reggae that eminated through such legends as Bob Marley, they had their own label in Trojan the lot. It opened the market for reggae after the late 60’s explosion of the trojan label. Jamaica has a lot to answer for in world music!
