Apparently Martin McGuinness is likely to be bumped off by dissident republicans.
Could I just ask that they don’t forget Gerry Adams?
Arguably, whatever their past histories, these two men have probably prevented a lot of killings in the last ten years plus by becoming part of the peace process. Same goes for any of the loyalist former extremists who gave peace a chance.

The past can’t be changed, but the future can. Surely a solution whatever the past is better in the long run.

It’s not me you have to convince, to my mind Adams and McGuiness are loathsome politicians who have advocated policies that the majority of the population of Northern Ireland do not desire, but that’s their right. Now if it were loyalists gunning for McGuiness then that would change things, however it’s not, it’s ostensibly those who are on the same side as McGuiness. So, if McGuiness is in danger from dissident republicans is it too much to ask that they do a proper job and take Adams out with him?

Not exactly, but what I mean is it’s better that they are part of the peace process than still involved in, or making excuses for, terrorism. If McGuinness or Adams or any of their loyalist equivalents get shot by new ultra extremists on their own sides, Northern Ireland will erupt into civil war.
Intimidation and brute force is a very effective way of destroying a peaceful society. Look at how the Taleban are now gaining strength in Pakistan. We can’t let that happen again in Northern Ireland.
