What a lot of old rot. People are not existentially bankrupt because they can use their phone as a Walkman.
And I’m not reaching out to you, either, Baldy.
For a so called intelligent man Pikey you just dont get it sometimes do you? They are not saying that people are bankrupt because of phones fgs……..

Yes, PB, it is funny about phones not being just phones. They have more distractions than a three year old at Xmas. How odd to see everyone with a phone to their ear as they plod down the street, or drive their car. The conversation goes: “what’s up?” “Nothin’. You?”
StephenIt makes me cringe when I hear people on the bus phoning home just to say “I’m nearly home” Whyyyyyyyy??? What benefit is there in someone knowing you’re about a minute away? The bloody things are the bane of our existence.
16 September, 2008 at 10:17 am #371737I have to fully agree with you there Pebbles. Every day as I potter around, I see people 9usually ‘young’ women) walking along with a mobile clamped to their ear, or texting somebody about something really really important.
“U OK?”
“YUP U?”
etc etc etc
I am slightly curious about one thing though. It sems to me from my observations that the vast majority of mobile phone users are female. Is that your experience?? …and why???
16 September, 2008 at 10:32 am #371738the vast majority of text speak texters are female do u agree m8

No, I dont think that is the case at all. I don’t know anyone who has’nt got one these days, young, old, male or female.
It’s the people on contracts with free minutes who pi.ss me off, making calls just for the sake of it. My journey to/from work is about 30-40 minutes long, and most days I have to suffer some imbecile nattering away loudly (and yeah they are usually young females) to one of their chavvy mates about something pointless such as what they plan to wear that evening, or who got off with who the night before
…worse still I hate those inconsiderate ba.stards who insist on playing music out loud on the back of the bus.
16 September, 2008 at 10:49 am #371740Meanwhile….. as the worlds banks come crashing down around us…….. Pebbles and PB seem more interested in their dislike of mobile phones…. Weird world innit.

World markets hit by Wall Street woes
Stocks in Asia and Europe continued to tumble Tuesday following Wall Street’s worst day since markets reopened seven years ago after the 9/11 terror attacks. Tokyo’s Nikkei fell 4.95 percent while the Hong Kong Hang Seng shed 5.9 percent as the effects of Lehman Brothers’ collapse reverberated around the world. There will not be many smileys being sent from anyone working through the above.
16 September, 2008 at 12:08 pm #371743Well from my point of view.
My accountants are telling me inflation is running at about 12%, not the 5% government figure.
I have seen 7 “new build projects” cancelled this month and our sub business of kitchens and bathrooms has seen a down turn.
I have employment agent offering me staff at reduced rates
For the first time in many years I am being forced to sack “sub contractors” , mainly carpenters and tilers at the end of this month.
I never liked doing kitchen, bathroom and new build work anyway, I do remember the last recession and the way people cut each others throats for work. I think that’s why we only used a mix of agentcie staff and sub contractors for these projects.
Most of us did see this recession coming, most of us have been worried about the collapse of the housing market for the last 5 years and acted accordantly.
We are in a recession, we have been for the last 3 months.
