We’ve had a lot of Polish workers in our area. I haven’t heard of any problems with them. In general the only major issue has been with a minority of Polish HGV and bus drivers who have turned out to be less skilled or experienced than employers were led to believe.
9 September, 2009 at 8:54 am #410674I for one don’t have a problem with anyone working legit in the UK. Why should I?
Sorry but for a person to leave their families & come to the UK for a better life has got to be commended if it’s done through the right channels.
There has been mention of peeps working for less than the minimum wage …. that indicates to me that perhaps they are here illegally in which case “kick them out”. If it was all above board then the law would be on their side.
As I’ve said before, lots of these immigrant workers do jobs certain Brits consider beneath them but strange how the same Brits don’t have a problem with their conscience going on to enjoy a lifestyle courtesy of taxpayers.
Not only are the majority of these immigrant workers supporting themselves here they are also sending money home to support their family. The cost of living in the UK is generally one of the highest in Europe so surely they are to be commended.
Anyway good subject for debate …. :)9 September, 2009 at 5:08 pm #410675all occupations have a pay structure in place , forget minimum wage for a sec , not what im talkin about , as ive said we fought for years to get a pay structure and pay conditions in my industry , and noone , british , polish , bangledieshie should be allowed to break thses pay deals and conditions and work for less , KEEP EVERYONE IN LINE WITH PAY DEALS , hence ur migrants who come away from home for better lives get an even better life init , but no! greedy fat cats and employers see a loop hole in european law and EXPLOIT it.
lets use the fire service as an example , lets say there was thausands of migrant trained firemen , willing to wrk for half the pay that firemen have fought for over the yrs , wages they deserve , the employers makes british firemen redundant and recruits migrants who are cheaper .
would the firemen stand for this , more to the point , would all of you ?9 September, 2009 at 5:13 pm #410676absolutely excellent point tictax….no one would stand for it not even the government
9 September, 2009 at 5:27 pm #410677It’s a matter of economics.
Say you need some building work done on your house, you get the builders in for quotes, the British guys quote you £10,000, the Polish (or any other nationality other than British) quote you £7,000. Their training is the same, their workmanship is the same…if anything the Polish (or whatever) seem more pleasant and polite and pleased for the work…who are you going to get to do your building work? Are you really going to pay all that extra money just to employ British builders?
So why do you expect employers to pay more than they have to for the same standard of work, which in turn would bump up the prices of the products and hit you in the pocket at the shops?
9 September, 2009 at 7:45 pm #410678I couldn’t give a shyte what nationality a workman was,as long as he is legal then a bit of fair competition is healthy.
The brits took work worldwide,it now appears what was good for the goose is good for the gander.
