28 June, 2012 at 7:24 pm #50024729 June, 2012 at 9:51 am #500248I think the “Lol” is used when we finish saying something and smile maybe? I know we never used to “Lol” in the olden days but we didn’t have text and internet chat etc which is expressionlesss sometimes so instead of being able to show emtion we type it ….I am myself guilting of “lolling” which to be honest gets on my own nerves

Kenty
You obviously never listened to reruns of the BBC radio comedy “Round the Horne” with the late Kenneth Williams, often lolling about.
Well recommended for anyone who who wants a good laugh. (and no I am not old enough to have heard it first time round but I love radio comedy as they get away with so much more than TV).

“Lol” is not a word. It’s an acronym, an abbreviation formed from the first letter of each word, hence “Laugh out Loud” becomes “lol.”
So you should have called your thread, “The lol acronym.”
:P
