You trying to have the last word, Martin??
stiff competition
14 December, 2013 at 12:17 pm #501346Well seeing as I work at home on my computer and never too far away from posting, I have a good chance of winning. :)
14 December, 2013 at 1:01 pm #501347What do you win for having the last word?
14 December, 2013 at 1:01 pm #501348I don’t deny that cage influenced many people and the skill is in the idea as martin says…but i guess it comes down to what do we really want from art?
Are we happy to just tap our feet and dance to the music released today or do we need to know about harmony and counterpoint to appreciate Bach.
Art to most..be it music, painting or sculpture etc is an escape from the daily grind and it gives us a chance to explore our imaginative side.
It rather annoys me nowadays that there are some great musicians about who will never be noticed.
Ps…i may disappear for long periods of time but i will always come back to haunt this thread martin
:D :D

Maybe…
I remember anc claiming her inevitable victory, on the grounds that she was a woman, and women always have the last say…
I was there when anc and panda were there..the only thing others have to win is their age, as I may croak long before the rest of you…
or maybe not, coz it don’t work like that lol
ps I could imagine you playing 4’33 brilliantly, Martin

the same goes with authors and playwrights, cert..and for the same reasons..commerce rules all..but it always has..the true people make do, despite….some, like John Eliot Gardiner, use commerce to do good stuff..others, like Harry Christophers and His Classics FM Choir, use commerce to do not so good stuff (sorry, am being very subjective, and the cultural snobbery must be stinking the place out to high heaven)
you don’t need an appreciation of harmony and counterpoint to appreciate Bach…
you need an ear..an ear for music, just as you need an ear for rhythm to appreciate the many types of poetry *dig at some people :P
14 December, 2013 at 5:37 pm #501354Most songs nowadays lack harmony…and some would say melody lol. It sounds like just a rhythm with someone shouting over the top.
Rhythms is always a good word to use if you play hangman.
You cant beat chords.
Strums an F/G.
