That seems like an easy answer, unfortunately it isn’t that simple. You get good and bad people amongst the homeless as you do amongst the wealthy. There involves a lot of personnel that would be required to oversee and make sure people don’t cause trouble like vandalism, rape and abuse so people would have to be separated .Showers and bathrooms would need to be installed, that would elevate the cost of heating and water and electricity. all red tape. I do agree with you this could be done Nemesis but how many people do you think would volunteer to take this task on? From experience I have to tell you few. And if you have to employ people to run shelters in the churches the cost may not be covered by church funding… It isn’t impossible its just not many have bothered and some who have I know in Aus have encountered many obstacles which has made it difficult and thus have not perused it. Wrong in my opinion as life is more important but that is what happens.

When I worked in The City (for 25 yrs), I used to give a ciggie to all the beggars outside the tube-station on Xmas Eve – I know that isn’t helping put a roof over their heads, but the look on their faces did it for me :)

When discussing the homeless we should clarify if we means ‘homeless’ or ‘living on the streets’. Momentarily I am homeless due to unforeseen circumstances, and catergorised as such by the local authority but by no means does this mean I am living rough. In fact I have the life of Reilly at the moment at my mums!

That made me laugh out loud. And I wonder what kinds of looks they were giving….

“A cigarette? Gawd bless ya, m’darling. Is it all for me..or do i have to share it?”

I would love for this government to spend money on housing the homeless, but I guess they need to spend it on trident missiles instead.

If you refer to those who contribute to all manner of charities and yet who manage not to publicise their own ever-so charitable tendencies and general do-goodedness.

Then no, not even the Lord Almighty will find me reaching for anti-histamine cream.
