So starting later this week – April 1st appropriately enough – we have the spectacle of on the one hand the World’s financial leaders (the G20 group) meeting in London; and on the other hand a disparate collection of protestors trying to make their various points with mass protests, demonstrations and occupations.
But who are these groups and what points do they want to make???
WHO ARE THEY???
1. Put People First (a coalition of more than 100 trade unions; churches; and pressure groups)
2. G20 Meltdown (a mixed group of anti-capitalists; environmentalists; and anarchists who have joined together for the G20 protest).
3. Climate Camp a loose national network of climate activists.
4. Stop the War Coalition & CND Anti-was and Anti weapons of mass destruction.
5. People & Planet A national student network.
6. Rising Tide A network of independent groups & individuals committed to taking action and building a movement against climate change.
WHAT DO THEY WANT???
1. The British Government to to invest in green jobs and public services and push for a transparent and accountable process for reforming the international financial system.
2. The G20 ministers to admit that their global dominance – the dominance of finance capitalism – has caused the current economic, ecological and political meltdown and make way for government by the people, for the people,, of the people across the planet.
3. To promote sustainable living and take direct action against the causes of climate change.
4. To rid the world of nuclear weapons, troops to be pulled out of Iraq and Afghanistan, and a free Palestine.
5. To end world poverty, defend human rights and protect the environment.
5. An end to oil exploration and the fossil fuel economy dismantled and a transition to a non-carbon economy.
By the end of the week we will no doubt have seen ‘armies’ of protestors, added to which will be an assortment of anarchists and others, just there for the fight, battling it out with the Police with each side claiming “victory”.
But who will really win??? Cetainly not the taxpayer who will be obliged to pick up the bill for all this.
I suspect that, when it’s all over, life will go on utterly unchanged.
What do you think?
31 March, 2009 at 11:12 am #394037As long as there is Humans on the planet its doomed. We are the only animal to ‘poop’ in our own nest.
Fair play for these people to feel strongly enough about something to make a stand. Its just a shame their efforts will be futile and that a minority of trouble makers will join in and somehow help them to lose the point they are trying to make no doubt.
I’d burn my bra…. but it would only add to global warming. lol jk… seriously though.. nothing will change, how could anyone or anything ever undo all the damage thats been done to this planet. Oh am such a pessimist I should have been called Eyeore. lol
Agenda 21 has been written, they have met til the cows come home and nothing seems to change. :(

Strictly speaking they don’t …. they point their little feathered bottoms over the edge and do it over the heads of passers by.
But leaving that aside for a moment – the news tonight has shown vast areas of central London with buildings being being boarded over to protect them from the ‘peaceful’ protestors.
Anybody care to hazard a guess as to how many will be broken into and looted …. all in the name of world peace of course.
1 April, 2009 at 10:13 pm #394040Well Day 1 has passed off as expected (and anticipated).
The politicians have all posed in front of the cameras for the usual photo opportunity and gone through the inevitable pre-communique posturings. Tomorrow will simply be an extension of this expensive international ‘gab fest’ with even more posing and posturing for the folks back home.
The motley collection of so-called protestors have protested – and much good may it do them. As always, there has been a collection of the usual suspects intent on causing trouble; damage to property; injury to Police; etc etc.
Interesting how the ‘legitimate’ protestors all seem a rag bag of assorted people, waving their banners and placards and playing musical instruments – much to the annoyance of uninvolved members of the public who simply want to go about their daily business.
The anarchists etc all seem to be in this year’s uniform of charcoal hoodies & trousers with black masks disguising their spotty faces. So far it has only been iron bars / scaffold poles used to attack the Police – maybe tomorrow they’ll bring out the more serious weapons.
Oh well …. another £7 million or so spent to keep them in order, but who’s counting, this is democracy in action …. right???
2 April, 2009 at 6:08 am #394041The whole thing has been hijacked by unwashed dole spongers and the Legs Akimbo dance troupe, funded by the Fairtrade Organic Lesbian Collective.

Very true …. and they will all be out in force today pursuing their individual and pointless agendas.
The latest ‘demo scam’ I hear is for ‘activists’ to liberally smear stage (fake) blood on their heads and then make a beeline for the press photographers so that they can make loud allegations of “police brutality” backed up by displaying their ‘injuries’.
Also, it has been reported that a number of the more violent anarchists – the ones who are desperate to stir up street riots – appear to have come over here from abroad.
Amongst those spotted were members of Italy’s Guerrigilieri Anomali (Anomalous Warriors); the French Anarchist Autonomist Group; Germany’s ANTIFA (an anti-fascist umbrella group); and Attac (a Left-wing group with links across Europe).
I wonder if they could be persuaded to set fire to the tents of the peace protestor’s camp and save us all a lot of trouble clearing up the mess afterwards???
2 April, 2009 at 11:26 am #394043Apparently one protestor died from a heart attack yesterday… and the police whilst trying to revive him were pelted with missiles and bottles. Nice society of thugs. What exactly are they ‘fighting’ for? Oh yes… peace, wealth, security and happiness. Way to go.
I have seen the front pages of the paper this morning… does anyone else think the queen looks like a taxidermists recent work? She’s so inanimate.
