I think you are right Poli…. why do we give single mums houses ahead of others on the waiting list for houses? Seems crazy to me… surely if teens have babies its a family responsibility? We should also cap child benefit to three children…. thats my opinion anyway
Unfortunately not all teens have families that can or should take responsibility for them. And for those who try to fend for themselves, the private housing market is atrocious with some landlords not letting to anyone under 35 and many of the available properties being of a terrible standard.
The majority do have family though words there is always the exceptions of course, but they should not be rewarded so readily in my opinion, families should be responsible for each other, and certainly for their offspring, thats half the problem nowadays, parents passing the buck to the government, the schools and teachers, it is a parents responsibility to bring up and care for their children wherever possible (as in they have parents still around). I don’t mean the homeless or the orphans.

Yes I agree not all families do care as they should which is almost an incentive for some young girls to become pregnant to escape their home situation…..
I know Im generalising… but there has to be a reason why we have the such high teenage pregnancies….. we have to start analysing why that is…. it cant just be because of low morals and lack of education.
According to Office for National Statistics, the number of teen pregnancies in England and Wales has reached its lowest since 1969, So it’s quite possible that ‘we’ have got things more right than we think and the trend is reversing.

Do we not have the responsibility to take care of any vulnerable people in our society.
I’m not in favour of encouraging teenage pregnancies. No. But who are we to judge when we do not know full circumstances of another’s situation.
It’s ok generalising about one group or another….And I’m pretty sick of hearing anecdotes about people getting benefits and houses etc .. There’s poverty out there….
Depends how you define vulnerable pepsi, and i am not judging people that do have kids as teenagers, merely saying where possible as in the parents are there, they should be responsible for their teenagers not the governments and tax payers. i have seen many programmes on tele and even heard the kids saying its ok now im pregnant i’ll get a house and money, that is not a reason to bring a child into the world, and they do, sad as it seems, they do that more and more. If you think back years ago, if a young person in the family got pregnant they were sent away to a home place to have their child and return not pregnant, now i DO NOT condone that at all now of course, but my point is, it wasn’t just accepted as the norm nor were people expected to pay/ house them. Youngsters need to take control and responsibility again and the only way to do that, again is back to education… from their parents, yes accidents will still happen, but you would get alot less 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 year olds making this mistake if we were stricter and educating our children better and not letting them see it as a, oh well if i do i’ll get a house attitudes, that do exist in some even many nowadays. Poverty is a financial state not an excuse for looking for what you can get however you can get it. Help the needy not the “i want” i “deserve”.

big question that words and i doubt they’ll ever be one definitive answer, and far too big a question for my brain to input into at this time of night…
5 May, 2012 at 10:08 pm #495417A report based on research done by The Princes Trust today in the Daily Mail states that the Uk has the highest teenage pregnancies in Europe and suggests that the attraction of financial benefits may be more to blame than bad education. Just goes to show sometimes Gov research can be conflicting :D
