Why are we continually failing in educating our young teens NOT to get pregnant? Why do kids want kids is beyond me….seems they just want a baby or be a celebrity….where are we going wrong?
By giving them social housing and handouts when they have said babies kent thats where we go wrong, they should remain the responsibility of their families until they reach say maybe 21. Maybe then they would think again

As the thread was about the future of future generations compared to previous ones, I thought introducing eastern European immigration into the UK as a major factor was a bit incongruous as the problems existed prior to EU expansion and beyond the UKs boundaries.
… that arguement been put forward as opposed to the eye rolling lets blame immigration comment, which came across (maybe not purposely but felt in our sensitive societies nowadays,) as though maybe terry was trying to be racist with his initial comment, then maybe it wouldnt have been said words.

Her comment was “Just love the way that somebody has to bring immigrants into it. Typical.” with the eye rolling symbol. She didn’t describe it as racist, in fact someone else associated the views with the far right and neo-nazism, but they’ve not been described as playing a race card. Neither did she claim any special treatment or try to close down debate as some others have, so I can’t see how she was the one playing a card, even one dealt by another.
5 May, 2012 at 9:31 pm #495402I think you are right Poli…. why do we give single mums houses ahead of others on the waiting list for houses? Seems crazy to me… surely if teens have babies its a family responsibility? We should also cap child benefit to three children…. thats my opinion anyway

i didnt say she did say it was racist, i merely said it could have been read that way, that she was hinting it, not that she was, but i can see why it could be read as such.

Unfortunately not all teens have families that can or should take responsibility for them. And for those who try to fend for themselves, the private housing market is atrocious with some landlords not letting to anyone under 35 and many of the available properties being of a terrible standard.
5 May, 2012 at 9:41 pm #495406I thought a young person could not get benefits until they were 18? Am I wrong? But a kid having a baby can get benefits for themselves and their baby? I also thought..have heard it mentioned by some…that you no longer automatically are entitled to housing just because you are a single/young mum
5 May, 2012 at 9:43 pm #495407Yes I agree not all families do care as they should which is almost an incentive for some young girls to become pregnant to escape their home situation…..
I know Im generalising… but there has to be a reason why we have the such high teenage pregnancies….. we have to start analysing why that is…. it cant just be because of low morals and lack of education.
5 May, 2012 at 9:46 pm #495408Do we not have the responsibility to take care of any vulnerable people in our society.
I’m not in favour of encouraging teenage pregnancies. No. But who are we to judge when we do not know full circumstances of another’s situation.
It’s ok generalising about one group or another….And I’m pretty sick of hearing anecdotes about people getting benefits and houses etc .. There’s poverty out there….
