The next generation will be worse off than their parents because there are less opportunites;
a) in employment.
The job market has been flooded by over 1,000,000 east Europeans. The shortage of jobs is forcing wages down.b) in housing.
There’s now a shortage of housing due mainly to east Europeans needing somewhere to live. As a result of the high demand accommodation costs more than it used to.I just feel that the EU doesn’t make life easier for anyone. Unless you’re from eastern Europe.
The pressures of the global economy mean that 1,000,000 east Europeans would have an impact on our economy one way or the other. Other factors affecting the job market are increased automation, overseas outsourcing of production and services, lower wages and higher prices making work uneconomical.
The fundamental cause of the housing shortage is the lack of access to land which keeps the price inflated, with a knock on effect on rent, rates, and the prices of property and goods. Until the UK bites the bullet of releasing land and producing the supporting infrastructure, we will continue to squeeze the population into about 25% of the land which could be available.
If the problems are all about eastern European migrants, then what earthly reason did anyone have to oppose the EEC/EU before the recent inclusion of those countries?

Kenty’s original statement. i fear could be truer than would be ideal, but sometimes things need to go bust and have us focus on the basics like putting food on the table and a roof over our head to prevent us spending the next two generations being so far from whats important we don’t know or understand human values anymore. So maybe its not such a bad thing in some respects, not good news for our immediate children perhaps but hopefully good for the future of the human race and be forced to concentrate on whats important., like family, enforced extended family situations may not be so bad, communities, working hard for what we want and not getting government handouts, whether home grown or immigrants.I agree with you Poli.
In addition…. Terry do you have to point the finger at just one group. It’s hardly fair!

Why was Panda considered racist in voicing her opinion that the way immigration was introduced in this thread was itself racist?
Well, Words, I certainly didn’t consider panda’s remarks racist.
Judgemental, dismissive and perhaps a little ignorant? Absolutely.
Most especially in her reference to typicality.
Quite a generality from someone playing a race card.As for Terry’s ORIGINAL post.. I challenge even the most populist on here to point out it’s Racism.
In the meantime.. Let’s get back on track.
Maybe it’s a cyclical thing Kenty?
Maybe the socio-economic horror stories being witnessed today are every bit as monumental as World Wars in regard to the urgent need for re-shaping and re-building New World Orders as it were?
Or would that be too exaggerated a leap?
Obviously the mortal cost of the major 20th century conflicts was huge and I wouldn’t dare compare today’s woes .. No, I guess I’m talking about “Event Politics”.
One could argue that a more comprehensive overhaul in why and (more importantly) how we live has never been more needed?
Could such revolution come about without catastrophe?Maybe 8)
Three words I guess..

I think it was because rather than discussing the actual issue, the eye rolling of blame immigration card was used, hinting towards the fact racism was being used, which i don’t believe was the case, and so didnt need to be approached this way maybe. Perhaps it was read wrong from one or more parties, but i can see how it could have been seen that way.
I don’t think Panda actually referred to it being racist, neither did she introduce the subject – so if she played a ‘card’ surely any fault should lie with the person who dealt it? (not that I think there’s a fault as such) As the thread was about the future of future generations compared to previous ones, I thought introducing eastern European immigration into the UK as a major factor was a bit incongruous as the problems existed prior to EU expansion and beyond the UKs boundaries.
Repatriating eastern Europeans and leaving the EU isn’t going to change the fact that the UK Christmas is delivered on a few container ships from China rather than in lorries from UK factories.

… that arguement been put forward as opposed to the eye rolling lets blame immigration comment, which came across (maybe not purposely but felt in our sensitive societies nowadays,) as though maybe terry was trying to be racist with his initial comment, then maybe it wouldnt have been said words.

I’m just giving my opinion as to why this generation will be worse off than previous generations.
5 May, 2012 at 9:15 pm #495395It’s a well known fact that in times of economic hardship, high unemployment etc, certain sections of society turn on ethnic groups and use them as a scapegoat and blame them.
Hitler and the Jews spring to mind…
And in this debate, it was only a matter of time before Terry chose an ethnic group in this country to blame. But I’m in the wrong for commenting on it.
5 May, 2012 at 9:15 pm #495396Why are we continually failing in educating our young teens NOT to get pregnant? Why do kids want kids is beyond me….seems they just want a baby or be a celebrity….where are we going wrong?

I’m more interested in economism.
