Don’t rubbish the whole thing terry, there are some good points, dissect and discuss (i’ll read the debate quietly) :D
Sorry pol, but I don’t have the time or energy to discuss politics with people who haven’t a clue what they’re talking about.
Gordon Brown didn’t have a clue and sceptical guy seems to be sharing the same metaphorical lifeboat with him as this country sinks into the depths of oblivion just like The Titanic did,

A referendum in 1975 supported membership of the EEC.
The EU is very different to the EEC as you well know.
We’re not allowed a referendum in this country for one simple reason. The nation would vote against it. We want out as a nation. So do the citizens of every other european country.

People have defended your right to make statements and not have them dismissed on this very thread.
Try not to undo all that with some of your more vicious trips to the Dark Side huh broseph? As for the Myers article, I thinks it’s more to do with that most awful of oxymorons “Liberal Dogma” than immigration in itself.
He uses immigration as a topical (if prime) example due to the French elections. The telling points for me are..
” Le Pen, of course, violates the unspoken core-dogma in the Brussels Imperium, which is that Strong Opinions on Immigration are by definition Racist Opinions.
No they’re not. They’re just strong opinions on immigration, that’s all.”
“Now what commentary do the liberal media elites allow over such matters? Well, the answer is none. Instead, they opt for the politically correct abuse of opponents of immigration. They insist on describing natives who are unhappy at the consequences of immigration as “racist”. “
And..
“Let’s get this straight. This column is not about immigration, which, in moderation, I’m in favour of.
It’s about language, and about how certain groups are authorised to talk freely about immigration, while others are not — well, not without being subject to the kind of hate-abuse that is actually the primary form of censorship of our times. “

5 May, 2012 at 8:31 pm #495383i would vote against it, but havent we swerved off topic a bit ?
Kenty’s original statement. i fear could be truer than would be ideal, but sometimes things need to go bust and have us focus on the basics like putting food on the table and a roof over our head to prevent us spending the next two generations being so far from whats important we don’t know or understand human values anymore. So maybe its not such a bad thing in some respects, not good news for our immediate children perhaps but hopefully good for the future of the human race and be forced to concentrate on whats important., like family, enforced extended family situations may not be so bad, communities, working hard for what we want and not getting government handouts, whether home grown or immigrants.5 May, 2012 at 8:41 pm #495384@(f)politics? wrote:

The next generation will be worse off than their parents because there are less opportunites;
a) in employment.
The job market has been flooded by over 1,000,000 east Europeans. The shortage of jobs is forcing wages down.b) in housing.
There’s now a shortage of housing due mainly to east Europeans needing somewhere to live. As a result of the high demand accommodation costs more than it used to.I just feel that the EU doesn’t make life easier for anyone. Unless you’re from eastern Europe.
5 May, 2012 at 8:43 pm #495385Why was Panda considered racist in voicing her opinion that the way immigration was introduced in this thread was itself racist?

I agree on point a) … but to be fair terry, so many home growns nowadays are so far removed from the concept of work and earning a crust, whatever job that entails, because they see themselves above some jobs, that others, such as the east europeans are happy to do for the minimum wage, that employers often have no choice but to employ them. While our own people sit on their butts claiming dole (or whatever its called nowadays).
I have been in that situation myself as far back as 10 -12 years ago. Having little option but to employ people from far flung lands. Maybe now things are getting so much more dire, todays up and coming potential employees will begin to think differently, and just be greatful to be offered employment at all. as for b, well a would sort b5 May, 2012 at 8:50 pm #495387@wordsworth60 wrote:

Dunno Words. Best ask Teapot but I don’t think she knows herself and refuses to explain.
As I said before I’ve heard this all before as my dad was a Jamaican immigrant. Just seems the racial group has changed to being East Europeans.

I think it was because rather than discussing the actual issue, the eye rolling of blame immigration card was used, hinting towards the fact racism was being used, which i don’t believe was the case, and so didnt need to be approached this way maybe. Perhaps it was read wrong from one or more parties, but i can see how it could have been seen that way.
