Your comment regarding sensitive soul panda…
Unfortunately when discussing such things it can’t be done openly anymore for fear of being classed as a bigot, which i think is why your original post abt the whole bringing up immigrants thing was taken as it was, and many subsequent posts since where you have commented on it, have indeed come across as, people are blaming immigration for things that immigration could well have a part to play in, it has nothing to do with race at all, if they were white from france, austrailia or whereever so called white people are it is still immigration, and just cos of any past history where asians or africans or whoever have been blamed, i think the polish for example although white, are still coming here in too greater a numbers than the country can cope with and may well be playing a part.
Alot of people are sensitive to saying the wrong thing and you are and do jump on things like this often so i guess it was a conclusion that made alot of sense to come to, that you were hinting in that direction.
But if you werent??? then i apologise for thinking you were, as i read it very much the same as Mrs T did for those reasons.
Also though i do think Terry should perhaps listen to other peoples arguements rather than just throw them aside as if unworthy of the challenge or debate, that is too narrowminded, and often the downfall of our politicians too.
But being of any multi racial backgrounds doesnt give anyone the right to stem others opinions by using the race card as a battering ram either, and i felt your comment was putting that barrier there.
Maybe we are just too PC and see something remotely that way and are scared to say anymore, or indeed act defensively for fear of being thought of that way, i dunno, i’m babbling now cos i really see a divide here between people and their racial views rather than the whole point of this thread. We should debate the posts for their own merit rather than their author. Which happens too often.Pol
the fact is that nobody (apart from Sgt Pepper) has made a positive, coherent contribution to this thread. And that’s disappointing. I’ve read (listened) to all the comments, which kind of goes against what you’ve written. But what i’ve read is soulless, lifeless and almost like walikng across a desert with no oasis in sight. It’s despairing to me that people use racism as a means to fight their cause simply because they see fit to do so. Not because it exists, but because they find some kind of comfort and self-significance to bang that drum.
It’s political correctness at its worst.6 May, 2012 at 12:51 pm #495501Cant agree Terry, other people have made a good input to the thread, pepsi for example has made a couple of good comments, and sceptical guy if you read through what he has written has some points that could be picked up and debated with, all i’m saying is if a debate is wanted there are bits that could be discussed, but i also agree that it has gone off tangent and become a bit emotional, and people have had to read between the lines a bit through a lack of straight forward clarification on some points.
We aren’t all politically minded, nor as intelligent as some, but we still have points to make and a voice that deserves to be heard and acknowledged rather than just classed as rubbish.
And the only way any of us learn is by listening and having things explained and clarified to us. Words has made a couple of posts that are also worthy of consideration, from a view point maybe others didnt see, like i said i saw certain posts in a way other people did, and because it does involve immigration and “foreigners” for want of a better word, it has bought up the whole arghhh defense defense i wasnt being racist mechanism’s too, because as in the link sgt put up by kevin myers, (great columnist btw ) some people do see that kind of immigration blame culture talk as racist sadly, which often it is not.6 May, 2012 at 12:52 pm #495502Anyway back to teenage pregnancy… make em all wear chastity belts until they are 21 …

6 May, 2012 at 1:09 pm #495505OK, kenty started this thread with a quote saying that for the first time kids will be worse off than their parents.
I could read all 17 pages, but I elected to read the first few and the last few (forgive me for not being thorough) so if what I put here has been put somewhere else, I apologise in advance.
I think that we have had a boom and bust economy going since the 60s. The economy has carried on growing, but every now and then it has to slide back a little, because a sustainable long term growth is not possible. The problem we are seeing at the moment is that we in this country have very little manufacturing. We export, but we export ideas and people, and not things. That means we are importing more manufactured items and exporting fewer, that brings with it a deficit.
The deficit along with the fact that the world economy (based as it is on “growth”) is in trouble and we are seeing all economies (well most of them) take a downward turn. Each time this has happened in the past, the growth thas been recovered and got back on track ending the recession. BUT, that seems to be a thing of the past and we are being told we have got a “double dip” recession. I THINK that we have just seen seasonal growth, and not a recovery from recession, and so we have never gone out of recession, not for many years.
Unless the way the worlds ecomonies are being run is changed dramatically and until this country can start manufacturing for export, we will remain in recession. This has the very sad effect that our children will not be as well off as we were at their age, or our parents. AND, because of that fact, lots of our children are leaving the country and becoming part of the “export of minds”. The amount of Brits going to say Australia has leapt in recent years and is still going up. Countries that have still managed to maintain good exports and growth are few and far between, but they are there. We just need to emulate them.
6 May, 2012 at 2:35 pm #495506Kenty darling, not everyone was born with a silver spoon in their mouth like you.
These illiterate and promiscious children are the offspring of these so called wealthy house owning parents being discussed in this thread. Go figure. 8)

So simplistic and naive IMHO. Ah of course, since then you’ve thrown in a few references to Gordon Brown just to mix it up a bit but your arguement in my eyes, remains incrediably simplistic and naive.
You really don’t bring anything to the debate. Apart from abuse.
OK Tel – where’s the abuse in that post, or any other?
It’s the abuse of privilege.
I’m not a racist despite your subliminal attempts to make me appear like one.
I’ve been subjected to racial abuse all my life. I know what it feels like. I don’t bring racism into my opinion and it’s not in my mindset.
Not calling him a racist or using the word racism or characterising him as such and yet he’s so convinced!!!
Panda, may I enrol for your “Increase Your Powers Of Suggestion” course? I could rule the bloody world from my armchair!!!!!!
