I know what you mean, I think it will be a sad day when we lose our currency yet I am convinced that it will happen sooner or later in order to keep the UK competitive in the global economy.
At the end of the day, a strong economy cannot be sentimental!
27 August, 2006 at 5:41 pm #238238My original posting was about acceptance of the Euro in UK shops rather than opinions on the Euro! Never mind! And the thread has been off topic into the land of mud slinging and back.
So……
In my opinion we should have joined the Euro when it began, and we should definitely be seeking to join ASAP. The government could impose a two month price freeze, one month ahead of our joining and one month after. Pound priced should be converted to the Euro EXACTLY using the exchange rate on the chanegeover day – that would eradicate much of the profiteering that went on in Italy and elsewhere.

I just am all patriotic when it comes to our currency, I just wonder what the future holds for sterling! :?
Ken Clarke still insisting on scrapping our pound?

I don’t know he refuses to take my calls!!
27 August, 2006 at 5:52 pm #238241I’m patriotic but I don’t have any emotional attachment to the pound (except for the ones in my bank account!). A common currency makes sense as long as it’s stable and now the Euro looks just as stable as the pound.
27 August, 2006 at 5:55 pm #238242We don’t have enough information to decide whether or not we should adopt the Euro.
However, people who say ‘no’ based on some kind of misguided patriotism, do not have the UK’s best interests at heart.27 August, 2006 at 7:12 pm #238243Why on earth do we want to join a Euro currency and more than that a federal Europe
The rest of Europe hate us – as we despise them
All this cack about losing millions od jobs if we are not at the head of Europe – ffs we are losing millions of jobs already
It will be worse once BUlgarians start trotting over with their mafiosa and thugs and criminals – keep Britain British – sod Europe – the biggest economies in the world are now in the East – we need to trade on a World stage not a European stage where we are hindered by the bloody krauts and froggies27 August, 2006 at 7:23 pm #238244@Ow£n Ka$h wrote:

If we wana rule ourselves, we need to vote them out at every opportunity until and including the next euro election in 2009.
