A majority of English voters think Scottish MPs should be barred from becoming the UK’s prime minister, according to a BBC survey.
ICM research spoke to 1,000 people for the poll for the BBC’s Politics Show.
They were asked whether it was right for a Scottish MP to be prime minister now Scotland has its own parliament.
While 45% of those questioned across the UK thought it was okay to have a Scottish PM, 52% were opposed. That figure rose to 55% in England alone.
However, just 20% of those polled in Scotland were opposed to an MP from north of the border becoming prime minister.
‘Deeply unpopular’
Scottish National Party leader Alex Salmond said the findings were “bad news” for Labour.
“It means the current prime minister is deeply unpopular in Scotland while the future prime minister is unacceptable in England,” he said.
“It shows Gordon Brown’s new-found Britishness cuts no ice north or south of the border.”
Encouraging reading this, a sure sign that the quiet dispondent English masses who par take more in society than any other in the UK, are not happy with foreigners running their country.

You are NOT alone, for this to get past the marxists (anti-English) within the bbc and published, is a step in the right direction, and shows that progress is being made.
For this progress to continue and not die, YOU need to DO SOMETHING, and do it NOW, dont wait for things to come your way, YOU have to WANT things to happen, YOU have to.

Wouldn’t bother me having a Scottish Prime Minister – he would still be British, just as I am.
14 May, 2006 at 8:26 pm #218205For a change, I am, and have been since devolution, supportive of Emma’s viewpoint- no Scottish MP should be able to vote on laws which solely affect England in areas of government that the Scottish Parliament has executive powers over in Scotland- unless the right of English MP’s to vote on Scottish legislation (and Welsh) is agreed.

Sure, but the issue she is raising here is her opposition to a Scottish Prime Minister for the United Kingdom. Personally i think if someone is from the United Kingdom then they should have the opportunity to be Prime Minister.
14 May, 2006 at 8:53 pm #218207Scotland, wales and NI are seperate countries, just like france and mexico are.
The English, and the people who live in England do not need those mentioned countries to co-exist with.
I and many like me do not consider ourmselves “british”, and we deserve the democratic right to rule ourselves under the headline of an English parliament and government.

yep, I didnt read the thread properly (in my excitement) – I have no qualms with a PM from any of the 4 regions of the UK, just dont let him vote on English law if he’s Scottish!
