Hot off the press …..Scotland’s biggest building society, Dunfermline, is to be put up for sale after the government decided not to rescue the struggling lender. It cannot continue as a ‘going concern’ and is due to announce losses of some £26 million next week.
Scotland’s First Minister Alex “Fishface” Salmond said the Treasury had rejected a bailout after talks with his government and the building societyfailed.
Dunfermline is Britain’s 12th largest building society and employs nearly 500 people in eastern Scotland.
He had hoped that the government would rescue the lender with a package worth between 60 million pounds and 100 million pounds, but the ‘English’ taxpayers won’t be taking over this Scottish dead duck.
So is this failure even remotely connected with the fact that Scotland has the highest consumption of alchohol per capita of any country in the EU??? Or maybe the ‘canny’ Jock bankers ain’t so ‘canny’ after all.
