do you think murderers like Sutcliffe and shipman are naturally evil?

A philosopher named hobbes stated that humanity is born evil, since as children we do bad things with no reason and eventually we become responsible for our actions.

Where as others state that no one is born good or evil, but that the society we grow up in influences our morality.

“The healthy man does not torture others. Generally it is the tortured who turn into torturers.”

Ive got no idea if some people are just born with an uncontrollable urge to kill, rape do serious harm to others, or they have had some awful thing done to them and its damaged them, mental illness i spose must play a factor.

by the pricking of my thumbs
    something wicked this way comes…

whether there is evil or not, I don’t think that people are inherently evil. They may do evil, or they may do good. They may be consumed by evil, or by love. Most of us feel elements of both; we’re not consumed by either.

But whether there is such a force as evil?

It’s like God. We don’t know, however much we may think we know that there’s a God or that there isn’t a God.

If you’re going to look at individual murders, like Myra Hindley’s torture and killing of young children, or to some horrific event like the Holocaust, then we can certainly point the finger of blame at individuals or social/political groups for committing such evil.

However, the witnesses of the raped/murdered body of a young child, or of the horrors of the mass murder of the Jewish people and of others who didn’t fit into the Fatherland, surely can see not merely the nasty work done by people.

There is a sense of evil – whatever that Evil is. Almost a smell of it. You come across it in events much less momentous on an individual or a social scale, but whatever you think the individuals deserve, or try to understand why they did it, pales into insignficance beside the presence of Evil.

So evil seems to me to be very real – and people who turn their back on love – which means all of us a lot of the time – are open to commit it.

I often wonder what brings people to commit such crimes, the case of a father killing his children and wife springs to mind.I guess we all have our own tolerance levels, when something inside us snaps or life becomes too unbearable to carry on due to financial or personal problems.
But i dont think most people would be capable of such acts, then again we all have the potential to do good but we dont always do it.

Dr John Bodkin Adams, Trinity Place, Eastbourne, East Sussex

Between 1946 and 1956 more than 160 of his elderly, female patients died in suspicious circumstances. Of these, 132 left him money or items in their wills.

He was tried and aquitted for two murders but was found guilty in a subsequent trial of 13 offences of prescription fraud, lying on cremation forms, obstructing a police search and failing to keep a dangerous drugs register. He was removed from the Medical Register in 1957 and reinstated in 1961 after two failed applications. He died in 1983 aged 84.

Special permission was granted in 2003 to reopen the files.

 heck………and theres me thinkin nothing ever happened in this town

and what about people like Myra Hindley or Maxine Carr, was it just who they met that brought out their dark side. Hindley for sure i think is evil but without her partner in crime who knows we may never have heard of her.
