pardon the pun but the british chip has gone down the pan
i used to love my chips me
but i dont anymore
they are pale, yellow, soggy ,greasy and boring!
when i was a kid i remember , mostly on a friday, when me mam used to send us kids down the chippy with a bowl
(she reckoned you got more) the queues were long(you dont see that now) but hey you could chat to your mates, it was like a social gathering.
when i got older me and my mates used to scour the area for the perfect chippy, beleive me there was loads, we knew who did the best chips, or pies, even gravy, but sadly over the years i feel like they have gone to the dogs.
blame whatever/who ever you like, the chinese ,fast food outlets, greedy lazy owners etc, but i tell you this they are not putting their heart and soul in it, the british chip is not the chip as we knew it,and me personally will not be going to the chippy anymore.3 July, 2012 at 4:41 pm #501600My northern friends used to swear that northern chips were better because they were fried in lard.
3 July, 2012 at 4:50 pm #501601Good chippy near me. I think the secret is clean, hot fat.
It’s funny to see that cosy has got a chip on his shoulder over this, lol
3 July, 2012 at 5:00 pm #501602a chip about chips lol
the best way to make chips imo is with beef dripping, and maris piper spuds
but you wont get chippy owners doing that these days oh no,mcdonalds, chinese etc dont know the traditional art of making a chip, they just want you in and out quickly so the next mug can take your plaice, sorry place.3 July, 2012 at 5:13 pm #501603@rogue trader wrote:

Plus I’m a southern softie and we can’t handle fat down here. Even a salad up north comes with a side portion of lard and dripping!
*runs
3 July, 2012 at 5:17 pm #501604im a norhern boy and us lot just lurve gravy on our chips
not like them silly scots who are more nortern than us having melted cheese on their chips and fried mars bars.
3 July, 2012 at 5:20 pm #501605Ooh! Melted cheese on chips is a Scottish delicacy?
*eats lettuce field to clear arteries
*smokes fag to relieve stress of cleansing
3 July, 2012 at 5:24 pm #501606Before I begin, I do class myself as ‘northern’
Gravy on chips is just wrong
3 July, 2012 at 5:28 pm #501607I prefer curry sauce on chips.
3 July, 2012 at 5:40 pm #501608Where I live the gravy has the consistency of freshly laid tarmac. The curry sauce is kind of like something that’s thrown up and the mushy peas get carved off a block with a chainsaw!
Gross!
