Pride and Prejudice would be appropriate for this place though :D
28 March, 2008 at 7:55 pm #192430I guess I have read so many books it is difficult to choose ones that are my favourites. Here are just a few that spring to mind:
The Wasp Factory by Iain M Banks
anything by Jane Austen
Player of Games also by Iain M Banks
Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll and Through the Looking Glass
The Golden Notebook by Doris Lessing
Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
Handmaid’s Tale – Margaret Atwood
Howard’s End by E M Forster
Anything by F Scott Fitzgerald but loved the Great Gatsby and Tender is the Night
Most recently i’ve been trying to read Ulysses by James Joyce.. a labour of love :)…books contain the depth, breadth and essence of humanity, without them we would be so much poorer

i only read the magic faraway tree one, but yeah moonface , dame washalot etc hellava imagination i can still remember scenes from the book like when the land of spells was up the tree and many more, i read it over 25 years ago and to still remember a book like that must have made a fair impact, not that many books can be held in ur memory for that long.
Couple of other good reads
Whispers in the Sand – Barbara ErksineMy best friends girl – Dorothy Koomson (new author i think )
Jean M Auel with her earths children series-
Valley of the horses
Clan of the cave bear
Mammoth hunters
Plains of passage
though found her last one Shelters of the stone not so goodMaeve Binchy is a nice pleasant read too
Margaret Yorke another good author
2 April, 2008 at 6:47 pm #192433I’d say my overall favorite book is “Wonder Boys” by Michael Chabon. GREAT book. They made a really good movie out of it too; the film-makers captured the feel of the book pretty much perfectly.
Anyway the book has real style, and the story is fantastic too. I’ve read it 4 times and I can’t wait until the next time.
