forgive me if im wrong…. But I aint religious,
but shouldnt religion be one of a personal matter…?? If so, then why the need to wear your crosses n * swingin jimmies * ie cruifixies…! out with your clothing…? why the need to advertise your faith…??
I don’t think veils should be woren either, as basic commication you read someones face when speaking to or being spoken to . .. plus from what Ive read the veil is not part n parcel of their faith… plus good manners does spring to mind…
17 October, 2006 at 9:55 am #244353It’s difficult to put your head above the parapet these days without being branded ‘racist’..so let me first establish my credentials..my extended family encompasses a variety of nationalities..from Philipino to native American Indian..from Jamaican to Icelander…not to mention the Welsh..Irish..and..hell..even a few English buggers. Myself..I’m a proud Scot. So I don’t give a shiit about colour or religion. I DO give a shiit about courtesy..about good manners..about doing the right thing. Now..if I were in a muslim country..I would be expected to abide by their customs. As Britain is a christian country..I would have thought it only courteous..to abide by OUR customs. It would seem the balance is in favour of the minority who are the more vociferous and ferociously protective of their own customs to the dogmatic exclusion of all others. And whilst there are those bending over backwards to appease the muslim community..a community whose touchpaper is lit at the slightest perceived offence against Allah..there is a growing dissatisfaction just waiting to be mopped up by a neo-nazi outfit like the BNP. The silly apologist attitude of our gvt is actually causing division. A woman clothed head to toe in a naqib..or wearing a veil..is only the tip of a rapidly melting iceberg.
17 October, 2006 at 11:08 am #244354I know society in general is much more “relaxed” now than when we were kids – there is not half the respect about , that there used to be .
We were told always to be respectful to our elders , take your hat , cap off etc when indoors , speak when spoken to etc etc
It’s gone too far the other way now – I find in my opinion that the wearing of veils indoors and in situations like addresssing other people – to be disrespectful
I watched the hald hour report last night on ITV at 8 pm – showing the teaching assistant who had been dismissed for wearing a veil in class – she seemed to me to have a huge attitude problem – she was doing it to try and prove a point
It was well spooky too – seeing only her eyes as she was talking – there’s something not right about that – it’s religion going to far
As far as I am concerned religion should never overrule the rules of the land17 October, 2006 at 11:52 am #244355I was watching THIS MORNING earlier and there was a muslim woman on completely covered. All that was visible was her eyes. There was another woman on also a muslim but against wearing the veil.
see hereAnyhow it got me thinking as to how this *veil* situation /would/should have been dealt with in Northern Ireland when a few years ago people had to be searched (and rightly so) before entering a shop/public building etc because of the terrorism.Considering hoods of coats etc had to be taken down so the people could be seen who would have been in the right when asking for the veil to be lifted for security reasons.
This is a hypothetical question. I dont know if this situation ever arose.
Im just wondering what others not from NI might think about it if in a situation like this where she would have refused to show her face
17 October, 2006 at 12:00 pm #244356I still think that they should all wear Balaclava helmets … .especially the ugly ones.
17 October, 2006 at 12:10 pm #244357I’M SURPRISED SHE DOESNT HAVE A SEVERE CASE OF CONJUNCTIVITIS. THE VEIL WAS PRACTICALLY RUBBING ON HER EYEBALLS.
17 October, 2006 at 12:16 pm #244358Well come on Pats her glasses were on over the veil.

Thats just being racist though Es? Isnt the the policy we voted for about welcoming all types?
As Britain is a christian country..I would have thought it only courteous..to abide by OUR customs.
Britain is not a christian country. The heads of state may divulge in such insanity yet to be proven, doesnt mean everyone is chritistian or take part in christianic beliefs.
The silly apologist attitude of our gvt is actually causing division.
What do we do about them then? Should we stop voting for the old gang, or telling them through veils in MP surgeries what we feel?

Oh dear Emma – I suspect that you may have overstepped the mark a little bit with this statement, we shall see.
