So what we’re saying here is that women seem to be treated as subordinates to men in the Islamic world and are forced to cover themselves up partially or fully.
Well why don’t we have a similar system in this country? For example we could insist that all fat / obese Northern women should wear some sort of body covering black garment that hangs straight down from the shoulders – this is to disguise their Michelin tyres.
How about making all the ugly ones wear Balaclava helmets as well? Maybe we could only let them outside in poor light conditions?
What do you think guys – is this idea a runner?
ditto the same for men…..cover their beer guts.builders ar/ses……..comb over haircuts……..bad teeth………..and what bliss!.we wouldnt have to be subjected to them scratching their ba/lls in public anymore!
oh pleaseeee bring those laws in 8)
15 October, 2006 at 12:17 pm #244344Ps – I don’t give a shyte about all this ‘should she wear a veil’, should she wear a crucifix in case it offends someone else’…etc…etc….
I believe that every person has the right to follow their own beliefs, whether Christian, Muslim, Hindu or fricking Jedi Knight….and if other people don’t like it then TOUGH – concentrate on your own life or f*ck off to another country.

16 October, 2006 at 11:02 pm #244349Muslim women who CHOOSE to wear the niqab (full veil) in Britain,
choose NOT to integrate with British society.Britain has no oligation to these women.
17 October, 2006 at 12:56 am #244350What a load of bullsh1t, especially from Geoff who decided to quote from my post without bothering to read it. First of all, wearing a veil is usually the woman’s own choice, they wear it because they want to wear it. Why should it be viewed as isolationist? Just because some people feel threatened by people who dress differently to them and decide to steer clear of them how can you then put the blame on the woman? The person to blame is the fool who decides he doesn’t want anything to do with a woman just because she’s wearing a veil.
Secondly, you always hear some idiot somewhere going on about how immigrant communities should try to integrate more. To be brutally honest, immigrants aren’t made to feel welcome in this country particularly by the press and by other right-wing elements in our society. So the key to greater integration is to eradicate all the xenophobia surrounding the issue of immigration. Think about it, all this muslim-bashing in the media recently, do you really think that encourages integration? If you make people feel wlecome they will integrate more. If you don’t want to welcome them then don’t complain about a lack of integration.
17 October, 2006 at 1:01 am #244351Whilst in Egypt I witnessed Egyptian women hissing at European women with bare arms and legs. They were intolerant of our culture.
Muslim women who CHOOSE to wear the veil are sending out the message that they do not wish to integrate with British society.
