From next year Science will not be taught as a core subject in schools. In it’s place alongside maths and english will be ICT. The government says that by 2011 every child in state education in the UK will have their own web space. This initiative was announced about a year ago.
The average state Secondary school in the UK has over 1000 pupils. That’s a lot of ICT homework to be submitted and the majority of it will probably need to be emailed to the teacher. This will put pressure on those parents who do not have broadband at home to have it installed.
This week the goverment have announced their latest initiative of charging a ‘small’ monthly tax on broadband.
How strange that these two initiatives correlate so nicely together but have been announced so far apart.
How sneaky.
19 June, 2009 at 9:04 pm #399418If the government needs to raise more tax, which is highly likely now after the bail outs, a small tax on internet use is logical. People who can afford computers and broadband subscriptions can easily afford an extra 50p a month.

that aint true.. nt everybody can afford that.
tax da rich more i say.. they wont even fckin notice… specialley celebs.why is it always tax the rich more?
they earn more because they have worked bloody hard to get to where they have some of them…they pay enough taxes! you shouldn’t be punished for trying to better your life for yourself and your family!20 June, 2009 at 8:01 am #399420@will wrote:
an why shud da working class pay more? when sum are on realley low incomes.. so low infact that they’d be better off on da dole. at least the rich can afford it.
no william you said that the rich should pay for it…that was your point…its not that black and white …i never said people low incomes should pay instead either did i? and just because soemone can afford somthing it means they should pay? …dont think so
20 June, 2009 at 9:50 am #399421I agree that there should be more tax on the rich, but anyone who can afford the internet can afford an extra 50p a month, especially if it really does go towards equipping the nation with faster broadband.

grrrrrrrrrr
20 June, 2009 at 7:58 pm #399423Quite agree if you can afford internet connection & the computer, you can afford the 50p tax.
Those on higher salaries get taxed according to income & therefore pay their dues generally so why should they be penalised further ?
The statement about being better off on the dole is ridiculous. Fact – the world doesn’t owe anybody anything. A poorly paid job, self respect & not being another statistic would appeal to any true working class person male or female.
(Not using any smilies in reply coz I’m expressing an opinion not having a go)
21 June, 2009 at 8:48 am #399424William i work 8-10 hours a week 7 days a week i work hard and pay my way i dont freeload and i dont expect anyone to pay any thing for me. i know its hard to live on a low income my mum was widowed at the age of 31 had 4 kids to drag up …she never complained and we never wanted for anything..she was entitled to some benefits im sure although i was too young to know what she got just as people onlow incomes are entitled to nowadays…but i think the main problem is with many people on low incomes and people who are unemployed is that you need to live within your means whatever your circumstances and change the way you live if your circumstances change…young couples want everything right now and so do their kids…they need to stop winging that others owe them because they are on a low income and adjust their lives…i see people come into the shop who will buy themselves 20 fags but when the kid wants a 20p sweet they go bananas
i also know not everyone on low incomes and unemployed people are the same and many do manage but the better off dont owe the not so better off anything just because they were able to better their lives either through hard work or possibly luck21 June, 2009 at 10:06 am #399425people on low incomes hardly pay any tax at all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
people who earn loads pay loads of tax!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
are you telling me that few quid would make a difference to her life? she obviosuly gets help with her housing as you have mentioned …some people dont want to work more because their benefits will stop …
i agree nurses should get paid more but a rich person wouldnt be nursing your comparison is warped ..also a cleaning job is ususlly part time the obvious response would be to get a full time job.. i know its not an ideal world but dont assume the rich dont pay anything back to society!21 June, 2009 at 10:40 am #399426@will wrote:
try bein in a lower paid job sarah like me dad was he worked 40+ hours an after his rent/tax/ blah blah he was bettr of on da dole. fact.
