Tomorrow’s papers are set to be full of the news that Sven plans to quit England after the next World Cup (assuming he doesn’t get the old Spanish archer for failing to win the thing anyway). Does it matter? Do we need a change at the helm before the summer, in light of this news?
15 January, 2006 at 2:33 am #182721I don’t want him to go because I can’t see a viable replacement.
The English press are creating a situation where no one will take
the job anyway.15 January, 2006 at 7:44 am #182722Maybe it’s time for England to have a change after the World Cup. After the World Cup Sven will have led them into 3 tournaments? That’s quite a lot these days.
15 January, 2006 at 9:37 am #182723who gives a fk if he goes, i can’t stand him.
There are a few potential replacements for manager, but all you ever hear is “not enough experience”, ” too old”, “not the right kind of person, wrong style of play” etc etc …perhaps this country is just getting too pussyish to take a chance on someone…
England could win that World Cup next year with the class we’ve got in that squad, he gives me serious doubts on the issue though. I honestly still have a hang up about Jermaine Defoe’s absence from the Euro tournament, especially when Rooney was injured….he would have made an ideal substitute.
15 January, 2006 at 11:32 am #182724I assumed Sven was going anyway after the World Cup- there is little viable English alternative- Allardyce may squeeze it over Curbishley perhaps? But are they world class managers- maybe not?
Our press are no worse in criticism than much of the European or World sports media when looking at their own national managers- however our press do make, what should be one of the best jobs in world football, look like a poisoned chalice.
15 January, 2006 at 5:18 pm #182725does the press echo public opinion, or does public opinion echo the press?
15 January, 2006 at 5:43 pm #182726BRUSE for england
15 January, 2006 at 5:48 pm #182727The English press are nutters. Who can forget Graham Taylor’s turnip head or the hounding Bobby Robson took and the guy was pretty close to winning the World Cup in 90.
I wouldent say all press are the same, it’s mostly press from countries with high expectation levels.15 January, 2006 at 5:58 pm #182728Surely if England dont get by the quarters this year he’ll go anyway. Three major tournaments and three quarter final exit’s would surely hasten the end.
15 January, 2006 at 8:22 pm #182729the press dont realise what they are doing!
no manager will want to take the job after sven! -
