Surveillance cameras and civil liberties.

There’s a lot of talk about CCTV and how we are the most watched society in the world. In Springwatch on TV they are not only watching birds and other wildlife out in the open but they are installing hidden cameras in nests to watch the private family lives of nesting parents and their chicks or eggs. No detail is spared – we see it all. Is this not a gross infringement of the liberty of the birds and eggs?

I think Patricia Hewitt, who was a big cheese in the civil liberties movement before she switched sides, should resign her seat and contest a by-election over Springwatch.
