Any one else out their being driven mad by the chorus of ” I’m bored” from the kids constantly echoing around now the summer hols are well under way?

Trying to find things to do that doesn’t break the bank is a nightmare. We’re off to the cinema this after to see Harry Potter (cheap tickets Tuesdays).

Gone are the days kids had breakfast & then weren’t seen again til meal times & parents didn’t worry sick. :( ….. oh and the sun shone.

What memories of summer holiday’s as a kid do you have?

Have to say I’m glad I haven’t got kids at this time of year! (most times of year really! )

Summer holidays as a kid….up for breakfast then down to the beach which was less than 5 minutes away with only a rolled up towel (no mobiles, no mp3 players, maybe just a book for entertainment). Spending all morning playing beach cricket or frisbie or swimming in the sea (was it really cleaner back then?!) until our mams all turned up with packed lunches – swapping sandwiches cos we always liked the sarnies someone else’s mam had brought better than our own! More playing and swimming in the afternoon, burying each other in the sand and making fake grotesque bodies out of the sand (you don’t want to know!). Then dad turning up after work, another hour on the beach then home for supper, washing the sand off in the paddling pool before putting our shoes back on.

Simple, but we never seemed to get bored, and the most it cost our parents was the occasional bag of doughnuts or chips from the beach shop.

Wow Jen Jen sounds like you had an idylic childhood.

Mine aren’t too bad if they get into something like exploring. With mobile phones now I don’t worry too much if the dissapear for hours on end as long as they’re outside having fun. & the weather, I just tell them it’s liquid sunshine. But we do live in a fairly rural location so I know they’re not on the street corner intimidating old ladies & they wouldn’t be for long if I caught them either lol

As for me, I can clearly remember being togged up to go to a wedding over summer hols when about 7. Told to play outside ’til ready to go. My brothers & I ventured to the local stream & built a dam out of mud & rocks. Needless to say we were in trouble when eventually found. OOps sorry Mum ;-)

Try being me – am currently running a playscheme! Argh!

I remember paddling pools, garden slides, playing cricket with my brother, getting the metro for 5p to the coast for the day and my sister not moving off the towel coz she was scared of the sand, kicky the can out in the street and hide and seek til it got dark, playing in the tree that looked like a helicopter and my dad calling us in with a shout from the front door and no matter where we were we went running, roller boots… oh and 10p mixy bags

the school hols are drivin me sis mad. she has all the neghburs kids in yer back yard destroyin it. playin on her kids trampoline but one of the kids is really selfish and won’t let my sisters kids on her trampoline.. even tho she goes on my nephews. parents aren’t much good either, sleepin all day in bed and lettin there 7 year old daugter get her own brekkie and dress herself, and she’s up from 7.00 and they drag there bones outta bed about 2.30 ish.. my sis feels like there unpaid unasked babysitter. so im guessin she cant wait for sept either.

will if a child is being left unattended to care for themselves then the parent is failing to provide a safe and secure environment for them. This is neglect and is a form of child abuse. Report their sorry arses.

    On the upside tho

I remember spending most summers at St Osyth with my brother and sister and mum and dad. It was very countryfide then, not like it is now. We’d spend all day in the corn fields or on the beach. We’d usually turn up around tea time exhausted lol, eat our tea, play a few games and then go to bed and do it all again the next day.

    Happy times :D
