In the last ten years we have had more legislation on what we can or cannot do than virtually any time in history. Even King John would have had a hard job being as petty as the current Labour government. And what is the result of this? Simply that the ninety-nine percent of people who are law abiding, honest and decent people are in despair with what they can or cannot do in everyday life. Law breakers continue to do whatever they want with almost total impunity because nobody wants to do anything that might affect their human rights.

It seems to me that if a burglar, a criminal by intent and action, cuts themself whilst breakng into your home not only do they sue you for not having safety glass but the dna evidence, blood left at the scene, is inadmissable in court as it was not given with their permission. Common sense says there is something wrong with that scenario.

I consider that if someone crosses the line from normally socially aceptable behaviour, they forfeit their rights as a citizen and therefore any injury or loss to them, their property or person should be ignored except for their mistreatment after arrest or detention. There is no need or warrant for torture or mistreatment.

In our politically correct new labour society there is a fundamental failing throughout society, beaten out of them by successive rights and charters. These codes, guidelines and overwhelming regulations make it pointless for anyone to bother saying or doing anything when witnessing anti-social behaviour. Abandon the legislation and move back to a principle based society where you can speak up or cry out without fear of being sued, prosecuted or punished because you upset some cretin who has not learnt respect or manners. Trust needs to be reintroduced on the streets. It is not up to the government, police, courts or even the local council, because they are our servants and if we don’t help ourselves, they will do it for us. It is down to every individual within every community to take charge and set the limits that are acceptable and will then only have themselves to blame if things go down. Give the authorities the support they need, but demand their support in return. Hearing about ambulance crews and fire brigade personnel being stoned or attacked whilst they try and help people is sickening and should never be allowed to be got away with. People have to define what they want the future of communities to be or we will all go to hell in a handbasket before too long.

Education is not simply between the teacher and the pupil. There should be a partnership from parents, local and national authorities, local employers, teaching bodies, board of governerors and the teacher and pupil based on a win win situation where each can support the other. Help should be known to be available not simply available if you know who to ask or where to look. Parent should expect an honest and candid discussion with any of the other partners and not be afraid, or upset, if it is not what they want to hear. By the same token, they should also not expect to be petronised by someone in a position of knowledge or responsibility. Demand more but stop looking to blame someone specific. We have all failed our children and blaming someone, extracting compensation by humiliation or financial means serves no-one in the longer term, simply shows that if you can find someone to use as a scapegoat, you are somehow justified. What children need is to carry a classroom around with them so that they have people helping them understand who they are, what they want from life and how they are going to best go about achieving it through planning, working hard and building each private and public success on the previous ones. They also need to be asked their opinion and ideas instead of given guidelines and rules. A self governed person will always judge themselves harsher than anyone else. If they give impetuous or ill-contrived answers, mentor them to consider the impact on others or explore the feelings they may have post action. Provide the principles and values, live them and demonstrate by example and they will model their behaviour accordingly. Fight them and you have a long term war on your hands. A pit so deep and dark there seems no way out. Lead and don’t legislate. We have heard too many times what we should do and how we should behave. Now we should start making the rules work for us.

wow what a damn good post what a breath of fresh air that was. well done my friend. its time people stood up for the children and the people of this nation instead of supporting the erosion of society.
here out in the wilds we have a sort of code for thugs and assholes if theyre under 18 thet get hauled int back of a van given a hiding and some nasty drugs [laxatives are a fave] then they get taken to saddleworth moor and dumped. it takes around a hour to walk home to our village and by that time they are a pretty sorry sight.
if you think its a tad hard think on, we dont see coppers for weeks at a time and even then they dont listen to the community. so we deal with the lill scrotes as we see fit.
we had a scouse lad a couple of years ago who introduced heroin and crack to our kids. he was duly reported and we waited for a result………and waited……..and waited….
eventually 3 local lads [builders by trade] turned up at his door and gave him 24 hours to leave the village. he did leave but returned a week later to honour the deals he had made.
the next day his car caught fire and sure enogh he dissapeared never to be seen again..
welcome to lill village life… scrotes beware the law cant see you but the locals can.. no doubt ill get flack for this post but it works innit…

Very interesting Wasp, if you’re face don’t fit….then you don’t fit.

I wouldnt disagree for a single second that a drug dealer doesnt deserve a kicking of the highest order…but tell me Wasp, who polices the strong who carry out these punishments? Who’s next- the bloke who dumps a girl finds her brothers and his mates smashing his face in? The bloke who “looks funny” or “talks funny”

Its a very very fine line between taking the law into your own hands to protect the innocent and becoming (aka the IRA punishment squads) no better than those you seek to punish

The whole point (missed by some people) is that we should become better people by moral direction and adhering to principles, not punish people because they have done something against us or our kin. If that was the case, we would be right back at the stone-age again!

Sorry Zaxx but that point may have been lost

In fact I stopped reading after you used extreme soundbites (please post me a link where I can read about a burglar who has not been prosecuted because he has refused his dna to be taken and has sued his victim for his injury- fact is Zaxx, its urban myth and not reality)

The difference between moral principles and punishment is another subject altogether- the anamoly in religious teaching between forgiveness and “an eye for an eye” is both startling and profound and does not take into account the society in which we live.

I agree we can set standards each and every one of us which over generations, if they become “standard”, will hence become second nature however to suggest that punishment does not in any way improve ourselves as people and forgiveness is the only option we should pursue appears both blinkered and naive

you miss the point slayer we as a small village are all but ignored by the police.
the only time this type of thing happens is when people dont heed the warnings.. if someone gave your 12 year old cocaine to try and you told the law and they ignored you completeley wouldnt you find another way to deal with it. ??
as for policing the people, well thats another issue, its never been a problem at all.

The problem with that is, that in our “wonderfull” diverse society, one’s moral’s and principles are the enemy of another.

For example, in islam, its morally correct to slaughter a sheep by slitting its neck, in christianity, that is considered imoral.

Another example would be, that millions of law abidding decent people would consider it morally just, that a murderer be locked up forever, whereas millions would see that as imoral.

Most political party’s think its morally just to use tax payers money to help black n asian people AHEAD of white people, imoral?
