    It’s actually..’May yer lum reek.’ usually used as a greeting at Hogmanay..translation..may your chimney reek of smoke… to smell of smoke..hence your fire is burning. To wish this is to wish prosperity to keep the house warm for the coming year. It’s also customary to hand over a lump of coal..though most hosts prefer a wee bottle of something instead :lol:

    You’re right Mary…..though I hate black-bun. Does anyone ever eat the ruddy stuff? I also used to get fed-up at being the one shoved out the door before the ‘bells’ coz I’m tall and dark-hared….it was even more of a pi/s/ser when they didn’t let me back in..ha..ha :lol:
