Apparently Starbucks Coffee Shops who have a turnover of billions in the UK have paid no tax whatsoever in the UK for the last three years. Whilst this company boasts of profits to its shareholders it tells a different story to the taxman and gets away with paying no tax.
I remember the uproar when Jimmy Carr failed to pay taxes on his earnings which are tiny in comparison to this global company who incidentally are competing with small locally owned businesses who are paying tax on all their profits, there’s something very clearly wrong with our tax system!!
I wont be going in Starbucks till its sorted…. I hope others follow suit
17 October, 2012 at 8:52 am #512874Will do.
I prefer Costa anyway 8)17 October, 2012 at 8:56 am #512875look out for small, out-of-the-way cafes…much nicer atmosphere
17 October, 2012 at 8:58 am #512876Starbucks is a loss maker for Britain. They don’t pay tax and they employ east Europeans. The answer is to close them down and get British investors into the market place. It’s coffee ffs. How difficult can it be??

I’ve never tried it. Is the coffee good then? I mean, is it as good as Morrisons home brand..?

It’s all a matter of taste I guess but I’d rather go without than drink Starbucks coffee…revolting stuff. Can’t compare it to Morrisons home brand as I’ve never tried it. Perhaps you can try a Starbucks and let us know? In the name of research of course. :D
17 October, 2012 at 9:38 am #512880The best coffee I’ve ever tasted was in (of all places) Prague.
It’s Jewish Quarter is home to the most excellent Coffee Houses (together with pastries to die for).
Truly legendary. As for small, out of the way cafes providing superior roasts, I agree in part.
The thing is consistency though innit?
These wee places can supply great coffee and, well, coffee that’s pretty much like wee .. but alas the good uns are few and far between.
Maybe this is thanks again to the huge commercial enterprises.
A vicious circle indeed. In saying that, I do believe the aforementioned Costa Coffee offers a relatively decent and consistent standard compared to most.
17 October, 2012 at 9:56 am #512881I usually go into Harrogate for coffee… it makes me smile when I see tourists queueing at the famous Betty’s Cafe and Starbucks …..the best coffee in Harrogate is a few strides further up the road

Jimmy Carr was not doing anything illegal, he just wasn’t paying enough tax the way the taxman wanted him to…the dreaded loophole
Don’t know anything about Startbucks yet apart from what you have written which was the same as I had read in the paper….were they legitimately not having to pay tax because of another loophole?…would be ridiculous if they deliberately havn’t being paying for 3 yrs being such a big company and employer and have got away with it -
